I chose not to use TPMS. It was going to be $195 extra from TireRack plus whatever it costs to get them calibrated at the dealer. Only downside is the light being on all winter but I dealt with it with my MS3 and it's not a big deal to me on the new car either. It's a small light that's off to the s...

Thanks! Tested out the tires yesterday before the snow melted and I'm pretty impressed with them. Acceleration was good, didn't lose traction much even getting a little more aggressive with the throttle. Braking was very impressive, being able to brake pretty hard before the ABS would kick in. I cou...

Yea I just went blasting around yesterday finding icy roads and had no issues stopping, getting started, turning, etc. As long as you have good tires, the main advantage you give up with FWD is being able to floor it from lights. I love that in my wife's base Impreza, but I can still take off just f...

Pic of the winter wheels. I don't think they look too bad. Hoping this storm dumps tonight so I can test out the new tires. Also pictured, the best thing about a silver car, since it's dirty as hell but you can't even tell from a distance.

I went with 16" for the cost savings. Plus the extra sidewall is nice for snow. The thing I hate most about full-on snow tires is how soft the sidewall is. I know this is beneficial for snow driving but they just feel so "floaty" for lack of a better word. Like you can turn the wheel slightly back a...

It may be a similar price point the first year to just get snow tires put on your main wheels, but the price goes up for that setup twice a year when you have to go get the other tires swapped back on. Mounting and balancing is usually ~$20/tire so you're looking at an extra $160ish a year going tha...

So the stock tires are technically all-seasons but they're pretty terrible in snow. I thought maybe it was just people overreacting but I took it out and confirmed it for myself, heh. I can get around, but it's a little too sketchy for my taste. So I have a second set of wheels/tires on the way. Dec...

Yea if we were talking buying a used car with 60k miles, I wouldn't have voted for the GTI as high mileage VWs, from personal experience and from lots of other friends and a couple relatives, are generally nightmares. But we're talking a brand new car here where reliability probably isn't going to e...

Even though the driver's door is longer than the passenger's, it's actually not as long as a normal 2-door, like my Mustang. I don't think it will be a problem in a tight space. I can get in and out of it easily on the first notch in my garage.

No that's my N64 I hooked up, heh. 201hp but they're only in the 2800-2900 lb range. Will get smoked by a Focus but I didn't buy it to race anyone.

It's actually a regular door, not a suicide door, but yea I wish it was on the driver's side. Then you could quickly throw a bag in the back seat without walking around the car. And I didn't look at the ST until after I'd already bought the Veloster but to get one with the same options would be abou...

E-Rod's New Non-Mazda

Hey guys. I know I haven't been very active here lately but I haven't had much car-related stuff to talk about recently. I made the tough decision to sell my Mustang because it was a lot of money to just sit in my garage mostly unused since I work from home. So I sold it and used the equity to pay o...

Since you're a grown up now, I'd take the GTI. When I was younger all I cared about was how fast the car was and who cares about the interior or amenities. Now that I'm not trying to race everything on the street, I want something that's more comfortable and more refined and pure speed is no longer ...

Well, you know, you want to keep some stuff in your engine bay for proper intake air interference. You need a little intake backpressure for the best power delivery.
