Congrats, what a great excuse to get active here again. Yay, more mx-5s in the mix. (Mine's quite a beater). Sounds like the best possible end for grandfather's miata-- keep it in the family!

Hahaha In all boring seriousness, when I hear about expected life of flash devices, it's usually expressed in terms of 10,000 reflashes or more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory#Memory_wear Of course, you also hear about failures (in general) in terms of MTBF, Mean Time Between Failure, so ...

I don't have the tools, tho looking in the 2010+ MZ3/MS3 field service manual, I see possibly-related camshaft alignment tool and a crankshack TDC lock bolt. (See attached illustration of service tools from field service manual). Let me know if you need an electronic copy of the service manual pages...

That's kind of cool. I wouldn't mind knowing what my stage1 SAAB 900 is actually putting down at the wheels.

It was Blackstone Labs' Standard Analysis ($25) plus a TBN analysis option ($10). Most people probably would only want to consider a TBN if they are trying a new oil or a new oil change interval. I had contacted the lab via their web site several weeks in advance of the oil drain to order a free sam...

I got an oil change a few weeks ago. I continued with PP 5W-30, dealer change. Drained factory oil at 2616, switched to PP 5w-30, drained sample at 5635. They graciously collected a used oil analysis (UOA) sample, which I sent into Blackstone Labs. (Incorrectly told the labs 5800 miles on odometer o...

Low mileage clean FDs are pretty rare. The last one I saw went through a Dealer with 28K on the odometer and it was in a similar price range. It's a special car, seems worth it if the mods fit your preference.

I like EBC YellowStuff on my SAAB NG900t and NA MX-5. Good initial bite, no appreciable fade on street driving. I wouldn't say they are low-dust, but I don't care because they're good at, you know, braking. Haven't tried Hawk products.

Yeah, it can really depend on where the wind is blowing, I'm finding. During the fire in Evergreen, I never even so much as smelled smoke. But the smoke from the Black Forest fire followed me up the whole way from Centennial this past Wednesday. It was even pretty smoky in the foothills, the wind bl...

I saw this when it came out, I do find the commentary on the MS3 to be interesting, starting around 06:20 and 08:15 in the video. My reading is that they are both strong cars in their class, but emphasize different things in their OEM balance. They're both winners, I guess, but my read is that the M...
