What is your opinion of CAI's now after this event? It might be too early to ask, but do you think this is like a 1 in a million chance of happening?

My CAI never caused anything like this before. And it would have been fine had it not continued raining and small lakes sprouted around where I was. I think with one of those sleeves it would have been less likely. I still like them, but I'm going to get my cover next time I have one.

Probably a good idea. Even though you're running a Fujita CAI (not AEM), if the piping diameter is similar, you could probably run one of these as well:

I guess I don't get it... I have a Mazda installed CAI (wheel well) and I'm aware of course of standing water but on the other hand, I'm driving 60 miles a day in this deluge we are having with no issues.... Is this related to the install, the type/manufacturer or was the car driven through a bumper deep lake????

Sorry for the bad news Lyssa.
But glad to hear you have support and a plan to get your Ride back on the road soon. Wishing you the best with your engine swap.

Thank you for the positive energy guys. It really means a lot that I have this kind of support.

The hardest part is waiting to see what's going to happen. It can go one of three ways:

1) I get a new engine.
2) They total my car and I put that money toward an E36 M3.
3) They deny my claim and I fight them with the help of an experienced insurance adjuster.

I hate being unsure and I hate not having my freedom.

As a heads up if things don't go your way with insurance, a reman engine for your 3 is $2500.

Yup. Someone over on 6crew got 3.0L V6 for his V6 from that place and recommended them to me when I still thought I was going to be getting a new engine for my 6. It's pretty reasonable. And that $2500 included shipping to a business. And I believe that $2500 also includes the core refund, so don't sell your engine :p
