Spoof3r's 2010 Mazdaspeed3 Build

Postby spoof3r » Wed May 25, 2011 9:14

Alright, as promised: Spoof3r's 2010 Mazdaspeed3 Build! I don't have as many pictures as I would have liked, but here it is in a time line.

Big Turbo Build Parts List:
Garrett GT3076R .60 A/R Turbo
ATP Big MAF Housing
ATP 3" Turbo Inlet Pipe
SteedSpeed Cast Log Manifold
Tial 38mm External Wastegate
Ultimate Racing 3" Catless Downpipe

Current Power Modifications:
CorkSport 3" Catback Exhaust
CorkSport 3" Test Pipe
Ultimate Racing FMIC
AutoTech HPFP Internals
HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve
Cobb AccessPORT

Other Modifications:
Custom Smoked Headlights
Smoked Taillights
BC Coilovers
18% Window Tint
Red Brake Calipers w/ Mazdaspeed Decals

The turbo build took much longer than it probably should have - about 15 hours for the manifold, turbo, downpipe, EWG, and TIP/Intake. I consider myself a pretty good bolt turner, but I was much more careful than I normally am with my cars to ensure each of the stock parts maintained its pristine condition.

It ended up having an oil leak with the stock banjo bolt. Got that taken care of, and now I'm waiting for my tune on the 31st. I will be having it tuned by Revolutions Performance in Colorado Springs.

I haven't gotten on it very hard, but hard enough to open the external wastegate. It sounds very mean! I can't wait to see what it puts down at the wheels, and maybe even see what it does at the 1/4 mile at Bandimere.

Aren't screamer pipes usually a bit longer than that? That might melt some shit being that short.

a fellow engineer with the same car/color and almost same setup I'm going with. I'm debating whether to go with the 3071 or 3076. If you do take it to the track what is going to be your tire setup? I'm assuming full slicks? Let me know when you do go and ill take a trip up there, i wanna see what she runs. All in all great job so far!

Oh I can't wait to see what this car puts down at this altitude. Please keep up updated.

Thanks! I'm not sure what I'll do about tires. I haven't gotten on it very hard, but I did floor it in third gear for just a second and by the time it got to probably 2/3's boost the tires were spinning so I have to figure something out.

Me, too! I'll definitely keep you all posted on how it does.

A friend has this same modification setup in his Gen 1 (however, with mostly CP-e parts), minus the upgraded manifold and external wastegate. He was disappointed when it only put down ~320whp, but this same setup I have has been making mid 400whp at lower elevations. I'm hoping the manifold was the big bottleneck; we will find out shortly!
