Having fun before summer is over

Postby 303MS6 » Sun Aug 05, 2012 9:14

thought I would jump on the band wagon on make a build thread. pictures will soon follow

already done:

  • AEM or possibly mazdaspeed CAI not sure because there are no etchings or emblems on it. (was on when I bought the car)
  • HKS SSQV BOV (black)
  • spin on oil filter conversion with adapter plate
  • LOTEK triple gauge pod with glowshift boost/vac, oil pressure, oil temp elite series gauges
  • brakeperformance slotted and dimpled rotors
  • Denso one step colder plugs
  • corksport TiP
  • SURE torq R6 RMM
  • SURE shortcut and anchors
  • JBR intake and throttle body thermal insulating gaskets
  • Cobb AP and JBR AP mount
  • black mishimoto OCC
  • high temp semi gloss black on CAI, cold pipe and intake manifold
  • BOSS 500 watt amp pushing 10' sony xplod in trunk

ordering this week

  • SURE dreadnaught and juggernaught
  • CP-e TMIC
  • autotech HPFP internals
  • corksport downpipe
  • corksport racepipe

have heard that the diff mounts and downpipe can be 'fun' to install, I have never backed down from a challenge and have always done all my own work, its a learning experience. I am buying the 'two piece' down pipe from corksport so I can have at least one cat when I go to get emissions done.

Any tips on install of any of this stuff would be appreciated, I usually rely on instructions and google/youtube to get things done and it has never steered me wrong.

Awesome work. We will be requiring a sound clip of the exhaust when installed!

I love doing my own work too. I did all my own work on my SRT-4 and MS3 and the only thing I didn't do myself on the Mustang was the gears, because they have to be lined up perfectly and take some experience.

As for tricks for getting the downpipe on, I have heard from other MS6 owners that you might need to unbolt the alternator and rotate it out of the way to give yourself a little more room. I didn't have that issue with my MS3 so I can't speak from experience there, and if it's a two-piece it will probably be a lot easier getting it into place since you won't have to worry about rotating the whole thing to get it up in there.

Make sure you use lots of PB Blaster on the O2 sensors, and when you're putting them back on, pre-twist the wires so they're not twisted when you're done screwing them back in.

I'm sure it's probably obvious, but when installing the TMIC, attach the hot pipe first. Preferably before seating it on the bolts. It can take some wiggling and rotating to get it on there sometimes, especially with the SU TMICs which don't fit perfectly.

Also don't overtighten the screws holding the TMIC down. You can easily strip them and bend the little washers that are welded to the nuts. I know this from experience, heh.

You get pretty good at replacing the TMIC after a few times though because you have to pull it off to do damn near anything else like plugs, motor mounts, downpipe, etc.

i have taken my IC off numerous times and have been plagued with the bolts stripping and being a PITA, i have actually had to drill out and tap all of them. hopefully the new bolts will fit.

around 15 hours later...dreadnaught and juggernaught installed...holy s*** what a HUGE PITA. One, I couldnt find a decent detailed write up, two, I had no experience with it at all, three, did it by myself without a lift, which was recommended. But they are in, car feels good and stiff in the rear...no homo.

SU TMIC and charge tubes are here, autotech internals, downpipe will be here tomorrow.

update

Corksport downpipe, SU track pipe, SU TMIC, and HPFP internals are all in and she is running nicely. All said and done, it was worth all the time and effort that I put into it. Pics and sound clip will be up soon.
