Needed advise

Postby mazdas308 » Sat Jan 03, 2009 9:14

Hi everyone! I met some of you at Bandimere last season, but haven't been able to log on for months. I had to register again, but eitherway I'm glad to be back. I'm the guy with the Black 08' speed 3. I have recently put on my Cobb SRI and my BOV along with my Cobb AccessPort. The car is running awesome and I can't believe the difference in HP that the intake gave me. My question is what downpipe do I get? I do not want to throw my CEL! Should I just go with the testpipe and catback to prevent the CEL? Any members out there that just put the testpipe on or both the testpipe and catback? I also need to know if there is a team this year racing in the clubclash at Bandimere? Thanks for the time and I will get some pictures posted soon.

I don't have a speed, but from what I remember, going with a downpipe causes issues w/ the turbo seals not sealing properly due to a lack of necessary back pressure resulting a a smokey car! I will let the real pro's, aka ppl w/ speeds, make the final say on this tho.

as long as you get a catted dp, it should maintain some backpressure, and will not throw a CEL. I would personally look into the Cp-e catted downpipe for your car

A little pricier than others, but as most will attest, the quality of the parts and the customer service to back them make it a no-brainer

Agreed CP-E parts quality is top notch and probably the best out there in terms of quality and customer service.

Thanks for the information and if there is anyone out there that has just replaced the Test pipe and exhaust I would love to talk to you. Did you get a CEL when you put your CP-e downpipe on your car Josh?

I have just the SU Test Pipe on my car, nothing else exhaust wise. I have never had a CEL, and never will. If you do just the Test Pipe, the car will never know the second cat is gone, and it will not have any adverse effect on the ECU. If you are worried about everything else, a Test Pipe is a sure fire way to gain a little HP and not have any problems.

+1 for the Cp-e catted downpipe.

I'm with Andrew, I have the same SU test pipe on my car. Never have thrown a CEL, however I do have some white smoke as of a few weeks ago (turbo seals probably). I'll be making a trip to the dealer after I swap out my test pipe, but I haven't had any issue with it and I've put about 12,000 miles on my car since it was installed.

I appreciate the help! That makes me feel a lot better. It sounds like I should get some pretty noticable Horses and torque from this test pipe. Did you guys notice the improvement right after you installed the test pipe? Does the ColoradoMazdaclub have a race team for the club clash at Bandimere? I'm hoping to get some good times this year! 13's ????

The increase to me was noticeable. Its not an "OMG!" type of gain, but you can tell there is a little more power across the rev band. Last season we didn't have a team for the club clash, but we did have a few members go with other groups. Maybe this year we will do it as a club.

Don't mean to bust up your hopes, but 13's with a speed is going to be very hard to get without substantial mods at this altitude. At sea level you could probably get into the 13's no problem, but up here it takes a lot with our FWD and power robbing 1st and 2nd. Josh (SpeedRacer) had a pretty heavily modded speed with launch control and uped boost ect and he got into the 13's, but it took a lot.
