I don't know if any of you have experienced this or not, but I did notice some articles on other sites. Most of them stating that the rear sensor is under the bumper and the connections are prone to moisture.
Here's the problem.
While washing my car last weekend, I kept hearing the single(lock) beep and double(unlock) beep intermittently while scouring my back bumper and rear wheels. I always keep my key in my pocket and no it, the key, was not wet. One odd thing is that the locks were not actuating when the beeps occurred. Ever since washing the car I can not use the unlock/lock button in the trunk. I swapped out for my spare key to see if my key was going bad and had the same issue.
Another issue, possibly unrelated, is that now when I get in the car to start it the security system doesn't recognize that I have my key and I can't turn the starter until I take my key out of my pocket and hold it close to the dash board. This second problem may be related to my spare key battery being low which would make sense since I recently swapped them out to trouble shoot the other issue. I will replace the battery during lunch today and see if that corrects the starting issue.
Any thoughts?

I have heard countless horror stories regarding the keyless entry system on the MS6. I regretted not getting the GT when I bought my car, but now I am glad I didn't.
I wish you luck on finding a fix though. Mazda should have taken care of this issue long ago.

Ditto~ it seems like the dealership doesn't have any ideas tho. My trunk locked up about three months ago. Josh had to manually go in and unlock it. Then about two weeks ago it wouldn't start. Didn't recognize the key for some reason. In general it doesn't work near my i-phone, so maybe start there?
[font=Arial Black][size=100]Roadrnr06 was my leased 2006 Speed 6 which was purchased on 06-06-06. I have many fond memories of that car, and will be keeping my original profile as a memory of the great car that I once had.

My key is sensitive to being around metal objects as well. If it's ever in my pocket and to the inside of something like my iPod, it virtually never registers the signal.
If it's in a breast pocket of a shirt or a jacket pocket or whatever, it works like a champ. New batteries right after I got the car, made a world of difference, and thankfully I've never had the system just out-n-out malfuction.

Thanks for the... encouragement? I will have to find some time to take it in and have it looked at. Still under warranty so it's not a big deal. Just a pain in the arse.
Another question to pose...
Do any of you have your car configured to lock when you walk away from it? In talking with a tech at Lakewood Mazda, I was told that the configuration change costs around $60. Don't quite know if it would be worth it or not.
Opinions?

I think it's more like an algorithm... LOL Or... exponentially derived.

I've had problems as well....my drivers side button works off/on, as well as my trunk. Passenger side button always works. I've had one time where it wouldn't start unless I actually put the key in. No idea why any of this happens, or what to do about it. I'm not about to go back to stock for a dealer trip, so I'll just live with it for now. It may be weather related, as it seems to happen more in the cold, but I can't be for sure.

I'm pretty sure that you can do this yourself and not pay the $60 that the dealer wants. If I find something I'll post it here.
The dealer wanted somehing like $70 dollars to cut my switchblade key and another $70 or so to program it. Got it cut myself for free at a local lock smith then programed it myself after an online search. and after being told that the switchblade will only work on vehicles '05 and up.

I just though of this to. Check the car manual. Sometimes they have things like that in there. I know Fords have the funny dance you have to do to turn off the seat belt warning tone off in the manuals. It's worth a shot to check.
UPDATE:
I have not found anything helpful. I've read that Mazda needs to use their Scan/Programer tool to configure it.
If they were nice they'd do it for free. Lee's Speed6 would lock when he walked away from it. I thought that that's how they worked in the first place. No need to touch anything to unlock it but the button on the hadel and no need to touch anything to lock it.... Just walk away.

I also did a quite extensive search to see if I could hack the system. Unfortunately I found the same thing regarding the need for the Programming tool. Thanks anyway.
BTW. After a few sunny days, the thing must have dried out. It's working just fine now.
