I think it's just Reg. Sales tax would make it more.

GTConversion wrote:Is that just sales tax, or sales + registration. I'd think it would be more than that. To register my '04 RX-8 with a book price around $20k, it was $1,221 to register in CO (El Paso County).

That sucked.

I think my dad is picking up the tax on the car. I hope it doesn't get that high...

Sales tax is added to ur car when u buy it in state at a dealership. Ownership tax you pay on ur plates wheb U register it. Again that is about 2.25% of msrp on first year registration

FWIW, they charge sales tax on private party sales when you register it. Even when it's out of state.

Mine was a private party sale in CA and they still charged me CO tax.

Is there any way you could change your signature? You're under no obligation to, but I find it relatively offensive, as I would expect most people who actually know what socialism is do. I'd like to keep this as my "car forum..."

It pisses me off every time I see it, not necessarily because of its content but its placement. I'm content to debate politics elsewhere, but it irritates me to see your political views in every thread I view.

I've been meaning to say something for a while, but your political injection into a topic about estimated registration costs for a car made it more pressing. There are plenty of places on the Internet to discuss politics and even a few within CMZC, but I'd really enjoy it more if you kept your discussion (and your signature) to those threads.

And like I said, you're really under no obligation to do anything, I just wondered if you might out of civility.

No worries GT, I'll gladly remove it:) Thanks for asking respectfully... Actually I was going to change it anyway, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

More accurately it is 85% of MSRP (75% for trucks), times the percentage associated with how old the car is:
1st Year 2.1%
2nd Year 1.5%
3rd Year 1.2%
4th Year .9%
5th - 9th Year .45%
10th Year and older $3.00
Ref: http://www.denvergov.org/MotorVehicle/FrequentlyAskedQuestions/FrequentlyAskedQuestions5/tabid/391180/Default.aspx

And evidently model year is used to determine age of the car. I bought my '07 Mazda5 in 2008 and was only charged 1.5%.
