I hadn't heard about that. A mild to moderate power bump would make a good car great.

Yup, rumor is that there will be a mid-model power bump, likely the 2015 version. That might be in that article though.

This article basically tells me that if you intend to mod, jump straight to some form of FI.

In short, they had decent power gains will bolt-ons but the ECU would learn to bump the power back down to near-stock levels. Kindve disappointing. If i got one id just mod all its handling characteristics since i dont like messing with the eternal upgrades that FIing a NA car entails. Hopefully the newer model refresh will be bolt-on friendly.

That is very interesting about the ECU adapting. Not too surprising though and I'd wager that other NA vehicles are similar anymore. The stock tune seems to be horrible though, with the natorious torque dip and mild HP dip at 4K. Probably why the car feels like it only has 140hp up here.

One thing I have been amazed with is the support for the BRZ/FRS though. It's a year old and the aftermarket is flooded already with parts. Turbo kits and Superchargers are in the same ballpark price as what they were for my Honda back in the day, and that was after 5-7 years. The car is certainly not in jeopardy of losing it's tuner appeal anytime soon, which should do very well for any buyers

The Subaru and Ford/Mazda ECUs have been what they call "multi-layer adaptive" for years. Nissan might be even a little worse.
