Rebadging Cars
If the concern is passing a car off as something it is not, then I think it should go both ways. In my example, all the big turbo renditions of the sti, evo, and mazdaspeeds. They are no longer those cars, anymore than a car that has the ame chassis and builds up to full sti parts is not an sti then. Why do they leave them on if what they really wanted wasn't the stock parts of the model they bought?
I'm kinda sticking VIN related. If I big turbo my WRX, my VIN still says it's a WRX. If I mod my XT, I can't apply for a VIN modification to have it reflect being STi equipped.

I don't care for rebadging either. Part of it was my muscle car days, the other part is owning versions of cars like the Evo or Mazdaspeed. If the VIN says it's a V6 Camaro, and you've dropped an SS driveline in... it's a V6 Camaro with a swap. It's not an SS, Evo, 5.0, Mazdaspeed, Type R, Spec V, etc...

Old muscle cars are the worst.
I bet there are 10 times the amount of Yenko Novas than were ever made on the road today.

Chicanery comes to mind...
I'm sure plenty of tuners get a kick out of stomping people with their DB'd performance cars.

I don't think there is anything wrong with de-badging, it's called a sleeper.
Porsche will actually sell you a de-badged car from the factory.

Yea but you know that's not what they're going for. It's not like putting an Enkei or Eibach sticker on your car. You're specifically using the badge of a different model of car.

Personally I debadge for less visual clutter.

The far cooler thing to do, would be to get your STi badge from badgestore.com, and then x-acto the "i" off, so that you can magically transform your XT, into the elusive XTi.

I would agree with this. It's a bit two sided though.
For example: this am I saw a hawt RS4 rolling down 25...debadged and it looked bad azz and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Then again, whenever I see an ms3 debadged I'm not fond of it. Not exactly sure why- but then again to each their own..
