Turns out I'm a moron, or just too trusting I guess, heh. On the way home from work the other night I had my cruise set at 80mph and quite a few people were passing me. I thought this was odd because I've been doing this drive for 5 years now and only 1 or 2 people will pass me when I am going 80. Then today I was merging onto the highway not watching my speed and going with traffic and I looked down and the speedo said 90mph. It was then that I realized the tune must not be accounting for my 3.55 gears. I checked and sure enough it was set to "standard" gear ratio, so it was acting as if I had 3.31 gears. So the other night when I thought I was going 80 I was actually going somewhere in the low 70s.
I've reflashed now with 3.55 selected so we'll see how the mileage is over the next few trips to work. I was all excited because I hit 28mpg going to work (downhill 1000') and it dropped to 25.5mpg on the way home climbing back up the 1000'. But this was 2-3mpg better than I have been getting on the highway so I was stoked that my mods improved my fuel economy so much.
I also probably have about 20-30 extra miles on the clock now that didn't really happen. Oh well, at least I figured it out before I put a bunch of miles on. Still pisses me off though because on the form I had to fill out when ordering the e-tune, it asked me what gear ratio I had and I put down the 3.55. So I just assumed they would put that in the tune and didn't go into the options to select it when I reflashed. Guess I should have double checked it to make sure.

So I got a video put together of my exhaust, first stock, then with the x-pipe, and now with the x-pipe and mufflers. Sorry about the wind. This camera doesn't record sound very well and really picks up the wind. Enjoy!

Put 4.10 gears in last weekend. Just going through the 500 mile break-in period now. They're definitely very short and I take off in 2nd gear fairly often, even skipping gears and just using 2/4/6 at times. Gas mileage has gone up 1-2mpg in the city and has gone down about 1mpg on the highway.
Haven't launched with them yet because I'm supposed to take it easy until they are broken in. I'm about halfway through the 500 miles now and then will change the oil in the diff and have some fun. Can't wait to see what this thing will do at the track.

Good lord man! I am gone for a few weeks, and you're almost running full bolt-ons (minus headers if my eyes serve me correctly), a tune and 4.10's haha!! Good stuff!
Too bad you didn't get a chance to get before & after track times, I would have been curious to see how all the mods added up. How much do trap speeds generally increase on those cars with the setup you're currently running?

Stock they trap around 110-111 and with just intake and tune that goes up to around 116. Not many running 4.10s so I don't know how that's going to affect it, but a guy who had no 5th gear ran 11.88 @ 106 with almost my identical mods. Not bad for not being able to shift into 5th. I have seen a few people get into the 11s with just a tune and drag radials, but those are obviously experienced drivers. I'm just hoping to run a low 13 up here. If I break into the 12s I will be very happy, but I'm not holding my breath.
I could still do a few more bolt-ons without tearing into the motor. There's headers which I won't be doing any time soon. There's a throttle body that not many people have used yet. The intake manifold from the Boss 302 is pretty popular, and I might end up getting it but it completely shifts your power band. You lose a little power down low, but from 5500 on up it way outperforms the stock manifold. You have to rev the engine to really take advantage of it though. At around 7200rpm the Boss manifold makes about 50whp more than than stock manifold because the stocker drops off after 6500rpm and the Boss just keeps on making power. With the new gears I can easily keep my rpms above 6k, I just don't know if I want to rev to 7500rpm all the time. As fun as it is, I want my motor to last, heh. But there are shops that have like 150 passes shifting at 7600 and no problems so far.

Man, you previous MS3 owners to Mustang GT's, don't waste time when it comes to modding..... http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=156918.0
Have you taken it out to a road course yet?

Heh, bet that guy wishes he had waited 6 months and gotten a 5.0. Oh well, looks like he's having fun with his car. He has more balls than I do. I was modded at 2,000 miles but all my stuff is easy bolt-ons that I could take completely off in 2 hours. I won't be tearing into the motor anytime soon if ever. I might do an intake manifold and maybe throttle body but that will be it for little bolt-ons, at least with the motor. I'd still like to do springs and shocks. After that it will be just saving up for the supercharger.
No track time yet. But I definitely hope to get to HPR sometime this summer, and I should be hitting the dragstrip in Pueblo either end of this month or next month.

Finished the break-in on the gears and have Royal Purple in the rear end now. It took some getting used to with all new shift points but I think the gears are my favorite mod so far. That and the mufflers since the car sounds so good. Took down a modded Mach 1 Mustang and a WS6 in the last week. Also destroyed a new Camaro but I'm almost positive it was a V6. I hope it was anyway, for his sake lol.
Also did the first oil change now that I'm just over 3,000 miles. The manual talks about 10,000 mile oil change intervals but that isn't happening. I'm probably going to do 5,000 mile intervals. I just wanted to get synthetic in there so that's why I changed it now with Pennzoil Platinum.
The car is running great and I'm looking forward to May 13th, first Friday Night Drags of the season in Pueblo.

Haven't gotten on the dyno yet after adding my current mods. The Tulsa trip probably isn't going to happen until September so I won't have sea level track times until then.

Well I'm somewhat disappointed after the first night at the track in Tulsa. I had one run in the 12s, a 12.66 @ 114. The other runs were all in the 13s. I had a couple bad launches, missed 5th on one run, and on another run the clutch stuck to the floor when I tried to flatshift the 3-4 shift. Didn't try to flatshift again after that.
As usual I was having trouble getting off the line. My one good run was a 2.0 60'. The rest were all 2.4 except for one 2.2 where I had the clutch issue. That might have been another 12.
I'll be going back again tomorrow night for the "midnight drags." They start a few hours later so it should already be about 10 degrees cooler to start which might help. It seems like I can only get 3 or 4 decent runs in before either the track starts to get slick or my tires start to get greasy or probably a combination of the two. But I hope to hit my goal of a 12.5 tomorrow.
