Sorry I joined the party late, some of us have to get up early in the morning. Here are my thoughts:

You have to drive into a HUGE puddle- one of which you really have no business driving through in the first place with a car, to get hydrolock because of a CAI. And I see people all the time say that they converted their CAI to a SRI for wintertime- I have no clue why they would do that.

I had a cheap ebay SRI on my Protege. It fit like crap. It rubbed on the brake master cylinder and on the upper raditor hose.

I've since changed it out for an Injen CAI. The difference in fit between the two is night and day.

I've heard of SRI performing better on the dyno because they can get better air while on the dyno. However, most of the time, I don't drive on a dyno and getting intake air from a cooler location helps in the real world. The Protege's engine bay gets really hot. I wrapped my SRI in an insulated and reflective sunshade. I haven't done it yet with my Injen- I haven't had it on for too long yet, so I'll see how hot the tube gets this summer. I did notice an improvement in heat soak with the SRI by wrapping it.

And I'd go with the Mazdaspeed CAI. The higher normal retail price could equate to a higher resale price if/when you ever decide to sell it. Just a thought.

I seem to recall getting the ms cai 220 shipped from tiffany and showcase a while back...when I installed mine I didn't disconnect the battery and it was a good few weeks before I did....no cel before/after the install.

I did get one cel while whipping onto the highway 6-8 months...but it cleared itself and I am not sure if it intake related. I also have been checking my filter kinda regularly
and it is still got that new filter smell..
