...complete with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four, sending 280 hp to all four wheels, and sprinting to 60 in six seconds. Naturally, the Mazda6 MPS (or Mazdaspeed6 when it makes the trek to U.S. shores) will be sporting an aggressive front clip, spoiler, side skirts, bigger wheels, a stiffer suspension and upgraded brakes when it goes on sale in 2010.

Looks like the Mazdaspeed3 could still be the "top dog" of Mazda. I really like that little Mazda2 with the Mazdaspeed version to come shortly after. :)

Is Mazda afraid of the 300hp mark? There's no gentleman's agreement in the US....

We're gonna need Mazda 2's if gas prices don't level out.

Yeah, it would make a lot more sense to put out a 300HP version of the MS6. If 6 seconds is truly the mark for the 2010 MS6, it'll be SLOWER than the current MS6. That makes NO sense.

right but really only 10 more hp and an all wheel drive system to lug around... get away from the altitude difference here and the regular 6 will probably be quicker. (from a roll)

Give us a damn car to be competitve with the market it needs 300hp...

just like the Rx-8....

Actually, there's no more gentleman's agreement at all... it was broken in Japan a couple years ago... surprisingly enough, the first Japanese car maker to claim over 280ps (276hp) on a mass-production JDM car, was actually Honda, with their Japanese version of the Acura RL (their $50k sedan with SH-AWD and 300bhp, well, with the new SAE it's now rated at 290bhp). I thought it was kind of ironic that Honda would break the agreement... not Nissan's Z, GT-R or Silvia... not Toyota's Supra or any of their big V8's.... Not Subaru's STI or Mitsu's EVO.... no no, Honda

As far as the new Mazdaspeed 6 goes... *sigh*.... I thought they would have learned their lesson last time. The car is just too big /heavy for their "sporty" model to be powered by a turbo-4. My Speed6 was plenty quick, but the motor/chassis combo never felt quite right... most "cruiser/GT" cars are known for highway acceleration/maintaining high speeds, whereas the Speed6 would fall on it's face up top, pretty bad. They should keep that new 2.5L turbo 4 for the Mazdaspeed 3, or possible fairly good looking Mazdaspeed 2 (cool looking car, I hope they bring it stateside). IIRC, didn't one of the Ford companies build a turbo version of their current V6? If so, that's what the MS6 needs, not another turbo 4, to play in the market they'll be competing in (Acura TL, BMW 3-series ect) they should really consider dropping in a turbo V6. If they offered a turbo V6 AWD MS6 for around $5k+ cheaper than a 335xi, I know a lot of people who would be ALL OVER IT.

Turbo V6 FTW.

+1, I kinda dig it too...

But it would be pretty badass if they would come out with a 300hp AWD version of the MS6. I think that would definitely be on the list for my next vehicle... Once I actually get around to looking again, which will probably be a while. But hey, a guy can dream, eh?
