Brandon, I completely respect your opinion on this and your considerable experience with turbo cars. I do find it hard to believe that CP-E would market a product such as this and charge $900 for a mere 5-7 whp gain. As their dyno graphs show stock runs at expected levels, I'd say a 15-20 whp increase at this altitude should be reasonable. I make this statement based solely on good business principles, and I am far from a technical guru. CP-E is known for their reliable and quality products, and to expect something far less than promised from them just seems wrong in my opinion.[/b]
Well, the price has nothing to do with horsepower gained, it has more to do with the material, labor and of course a small profit margin.... case in point, I used to own a Nissan 350Z, and there were several $1000 cat-back exhausts that only gained a handful of horsepower, here's one:
http://www.hopupracing.com/nis35caexsy.html^^^Nismo cat-back, costs over $1000 and only adds 6whp. Although wonderful build quality and sound... I know, I bought a used Nismo exhaust for my 350Z lol, although I didn't pay anywhere near $1000, IIRC I paid about $400 used, as I couldn't justify that much money for that little horsepower.
Either way, CP-E is awesome, they have great products, but at the same time, they're in the business to manufacture and sell parts.... like you said, if a $900 exhaust only added 5-7whp, and most people saw that, hardly anyone would want to buy it. Have you pulled the stock exhaust off of your car? No disrespect meant, but the stock cat-back isn't all the restrictive, it's 2.5" diameter piping branching off into a y-pipe that only goes down to dual 2.25" pipes/mufflers. At close to stock power levels, going from 2.5" piping to 3.0" piping isn't going to give you any large gains, the only real gains you're going to see are going to be from the lack of baffles in the mufflers themselves.... when you think of it like that, well, try pulling your mufflers off to see if you can feel any gains, as that's about what you're going to see with the CP-E system. Trust me, I pulled the mufflers off my Speed6 (sounded like shit, I even made a thread about it over on 6club lol) and didn't hardly notice a difference, but don't take my word for it, try it for yourself.
I really wish you would see 15-20whp gains from a cat-back alone, but honestly your biggest restrictions in your exhaust are your cats, not the piping thereafter. You've had your car on the dyno before right? Buy the exhaust, strap the car back up to the dyno, and see the results for yourself. Once again, no disrespect intended, but logically it's not really possible, although it will be more helpful at higher power levels with tuning. I don't mean this sarcastically, but I honestly hope someone proves me wrong, it's just highly unlikely...
