Arrgh! Today I noticed that my windshield/windscreen on my Mazda5 cracked. A foot long crack too.
Anyone got any recommendations on a glass place to replace it?

Wait till mid-spring whatever you do.

More than likely you'll need to go through your insurance just because of how expensive windshields are now adays...

I second MazdaTom on this one, at least wait until winter is over and the gravel is somewhat removed from the roads.
In general I won't replace a windshield until the cracks obscure my vision while driving. Otherwise it is just so damn expensive to replace.

I have a crack on my passenger side (got it about a month ago- my first ever cracked windshield). I have no real desire to replace it just yet. At this point, the gravel pits in the windshield are more of a concern for replacement for me- driving into the sun, all those pits really obscure my vision. The crack is only about 10" long or so.

depending on the size of the crack they may be able to stop it from progressing and it should be minimal out of pocket cost, depending on your insurance. This usually applies to cracks smaller than a dollar bill, it sounds like yours is much bigger than that.

I use Elite Auto Glass. They work with my shop often, and they always do a great job. They are mobile too, which can help... Usually they can get me a little discount on the price, my windshield on my speed6 was $125 installed... I'd be happy to get a quote for you if youd like..

Thanks for the info, Speed Racer, will check with insurance tomorrow.
And thanks for the offer Eric, I'll be contacting you one way or the other since I'll need to get the top of new windshield tinted.
