MS3/MS6 at the dragstrip...

Has anyone with modded MS3/MS6 been running at Bandimere to see how the car does. If so, please submit your basic mods and your times. I think this can be a realistic approach in seeing how our cars do with various mods. If there is a way to add time slips, please do. Thanks.

The biggest thing that prohibits this from being a truly useful experiment, is that you can't account for constant driver performance, amongst other things. Drag racing I think - while very much a parts and tuning driven hobby - still owes a lot to how the driver races his machine. And how he's prepped his machine for the race (Not Mods).
Now I'm not saying this wouldn't be a fun thing to see and know, and even maybe valuable to some extent... But it couldn't really be used to do anybody any good as a (in your terms) "realistic" approach to gauging anything mod-related; in my opinion, anyway. The various intangibles just allow for too much variance in any data you'll see. Unless of course you are focusing on juat *a* specific car.

Well, since this is only to see what local mazdas are doing at the drag, I think it will be ok for people to post their numbers and we'll see what results we get.

I think probably 2 or 3 of our members have run their cars, and 2 of them won't tell you their times. Getting a dyno after you mod is a more accurate wY to gauge this, like barn said, some people can drive, some can't.

Haha, yes, the before dyno is pretty important. Thanks for catching that!

Well, let's see if people post anything and see what happens. It is also interesting to see what people dyno and which shop they do it at since the numbers will vary. But going to places like Bandimere and running the car is what counts after you make all the power and such.

The last time I ran my car at Bandi my mods were: intake, inlet, TMIC, BOV, downpipe, RMM, Standback with mild tune @ 17psi. The best I did was a measlely 14.1 at 101mph with shitty 60' times as I couldn't get traction for the life of me. FWD = FAIL Wheel Drive.

That's the thing. I already know I suck at launching the car so I'm reluctant to spend the time going to the track and beating on my car when I know my times will suck. The best 60' times I was getting in my SRT-4 the couple times I went was 2.3-2.4 which is terrible. And I could launch that car better than I can launch my MS3 with a much touchier clutch and more power.
I already know my MS3 is faster than my SRT but I'd feel bad if I went to the track and ran slower than the 14.3 I ran in my SRT, which was probably capable of 13s with a competent driver, which I am not, at least not when it comes to launching a high-powered FWD car on street tires.

Dyno's are useful
tuning tools, but you can't compare one dyno to another. The drag strip is where lofty reading dyno numbers come to die.
Most people don't mod their car for a fancy dyno sheet (except Supra owners

), so unless you're building a dyno queen, I'd care more about what drag times you're running than what dyno numbers you're throwing down.
/ my 0.02 cents.

Yeah I don't think anyone really goes out. One Heavily Modded MS6 about two years ago was running about a 13.9. That's the only time I can remember besides a lightly modded MS3 that ran a 14.9. Driver error? That specific MS3 also had one of the highest HP & TQ readings at one of the club Dyno Meets. This was over 2yrs ago though. I personally have had a best time of 16.3. If you wanna head up for a test and tune I may go after I get my final tune. That is if i get it tuned before the last Test and Tune day.
If you search you could probably find an old thread of when we did a meet up at Bandimere. There are some times posted there. This was in 07-08.

I'll show you how to launch it

I agree, I think drag strip with a proper set up is what counts and not the big power that cannot be utilized properly.
I personally am going to try to make few runs before putting the car away for the winter once my tune is complete. I am definintely shooting for 12s....so we'll see what happens.

I think 12s at this altitude in an MS3 would require an aftermarket turbo, some drag radials or slicks, some good driving, and some luck.

Well, I have everything minus the slicks. I'll get my buddy to make some runs as well to get some variety once we're at Bandimere. If not this year, then by the end of next year or so the car will definitely have everything needed to be where I need it to be.
