Volvo Fun, my '01 V70

Well, I have hemmed and hawed over keeping the car since I bought it. Now after this weekend, I've got to put a bit of work into it. Pulling out of the parking lot at work on Friday heard a big ol' POP. Didn't think much of it until I hit the highway. Massive vibration under any type of load. Assumed it was the CV, yet a CV rebuild kit costs $10 less than the halfshaft. So, with 145k on the car, I figured I'd go ahead and give swapping the shafts on both sides out a shot. While I'm in there, I'll probably do the control arms (driver's side needs it anyway). I may need new spring seats as well. So, it's time to dive in. This will actually be the first FWD (AWD, whatever) car that I've messed around with any drivetrain components.

All vehicles need at *least* one blood sacrifice. Just get it out of the way, the volvo will be much happier with you by the time you're done.

And then it true mystery fashion, the vibration goes away. It was significant, too. I got under there last night and poked around. Other than the angle gear leak that's been there since day 1, I found nothing. Hmm, if it's something more significant, such as the angle gear or tranny, ugh. Time to dump it.

Will Huzer find the problem?
Is there a problem at all?
Will he dump it?

Stay tuned...

Front CV joint on propshaft is what the problem is. I can drive it without (the propshaft that is, which will make the car FWD only), but didn't have a 5MM hex socket to work with to get it removed. Grr. More under-car fun tomorrow.

Not yet. I'm still worried that the angle gear is also toast. I finally got around to picking up some hex sockets yesterday.
