This morning when i started up my car it stalled... this was around 10am, 21 degrees according to the cars temp gauge. I leave my car in gear when its parked and just to clarify, i made 110% sure it wasn’t in gear when i release the clutch after starting the car and once i released the clutch, the rpm's dropped rapidly from 2k all the way to zip and stalled. The car didn’t even shudder like it dose if you stall out normally, just smoothly and rapidly went from 2k to nothing and stalled. Any ideas as to why this happened? Oh and its the second time its done so in the past month. Thanks!

are you just starting the car right away when you get in? I've seen it with a lot of cars will do it. What ive learned it get in, turn the key to the on position wait 5-6 seconds, then crank it over. Seems like the fuel pump or something because of the cold is trying to move the gas around or something.. should help...

Yep, started it up took the clutch out to let it warm up and circulate oil ect ect and it stalled out on me.

Yeah i am, get in and start up... i guess that’s the problem. Just seems strange, i know when the key in the "on" position the fuel pump is on, you can hear it, but i wouldn’t think its moving fuel. Maybe its more prepared to move fuel if its on for a moment prior to start up. Ill give it a shot. Thanks Josh!

Well its covered, just not physically in a 4 wall structure. Its "covered parking" underneath my apartment, its protected from the elements, just not very insulated.

was your car outside(ie not garaged)? Josh's advice is good stuff, I have done that when it is really cold out.[/b]

I had the same problem for the past month and a half. It recently stopped. It was usually upon first start up. The car would run like usual, when I go outside to scrape the frost off the windows all of a sudden the car dies. Oh and I always wait a few secs before I ignite the car. You can hear the fuel pump stop. It's a habbit from my bro's muscle cars. Stopped know but I have a missfiring problem again. Another CEL yesterday when leaving Parkmeadows.
Hope this gets figured out Andrew.

Ill start going the turn the key to "on" before starting it up and see if that helps. It doesn’t do it often, well only twice, maybe three times, but now every time i start the car im afraid to release the clutch for fear of it stalling out again. Probably nothing, my car probably just hates the unbearable cold as much as i do. Thanks all!

This is what I was mentioning Andrew over in the MS3/CX7 Recall thread. I left my car in the garage for a whole week in the cold weather without starting it and it stalled also when starting it up. Like Josh mentioned its probably a good idea to turn the key to the on position for a good 5-10 seconds. I'll try this probably tomorrow since once again my Speed3 has been in the garage since last Monday...

Yeah i read that quickly and thought it just didn’t start. A guy on the 3 forums pm'd me and said he had similar problems that persisted and it turned out to be a faulty purge valve.
This was the pm:
"If this problem happened only once don’t worry about it.
I had a big ongoing problem with what you just described and if it happens again get your purge valve replaced.
hows your mpg?
I didnt get any engine codes and the dealer couldnt figure it out, I did a lot of searching/googling and figured out it was the purge valve."

I don't think it will... Its just one of those things due to the very cold weather we've been having.
Yeah im crossing my fingers hoping it doesn’t turn out to be a hassle.[/b]

Small update:
I did the turn the key to "on" and wait for a second or two after work and then started it up with the outside temp reading of 16 degrees and it didn't stall on me this time. So maybe i was just to fast to start it up so cold the first two times.

Andrew i dont think that the 5-6 second rule is the issue I leave my car outside all night long when i work weekends so 4 days in a row with 0 degree's out and start it up like no ones business quickly. I'd say its possible its that purge valve also I don't leave mine in gear so that might have something to do with it..
