I mentioned a while back that someone tried to break into my car and broke all of my window moldings/seals and dented my car up... Well now I have the replacement moldings here in front of me and I can't for the life of me figure out how to install the things.
I've even had friends and family try to help, but there's gotta be a specific way to remove them cause we can't get them to budge.


So then I went to a body shop that quoted me $450-500, and I was like

They look like the same kind of setup as on the FD. If it is the same, you can just break the tabs on those by yanking on them since you have replacement pieces. However, if you want to get them off easily...take off the door panel, roll the window up and there should be tabs along the bottom of the seal holding onto the metal, you'll have to pop those tabs loose one by one. Hope that works for you.

What do the new pieces look like? Do you have pics?

Like speedjunky said, you have new ones so no need to be carefull pulling the old ones. Look at the new ones did they come with screws or do you see any holes that look like screws would go there and hold them in place. If not Harbor Freight has some plastic pry bars specifically for this kind of thing so you can pry them loose with little chance of damaging your paint.

If you can get part of it to come up, usually wiggling back and forth while pulling strait up will unseat the tabs holding these in place. If that doesn't work then as speedjunky suggested you will have to take the interior door panel off. Make sure you get all the screws holding that in place then if you've got the plastic tools I mentioned from Harbor Freight use the tool with the notch to pry up the plastic anchors still holding the panel in place. the anchor should be in that notch when prying. That will minimize damage to the panel and anchor. Once thats done like SJ stated with the window up see if you can pop any tabs holding the trim piece on, and see if maybe there are screws holding the ends in place. Once you get part of it lose put the window down and you will be able to grab the trim piece easier and again wiggle and lift.

Awesome! That's exactly what I needed. I was afraid the metal was so thin there that it might bend, but if this guy did it then I can too. I'll post pics tomorrow whether good or bad.

I'm going to have to do this on my Miata soon. Last year my driver's side trim piece got torn up by hail. It was old and brittle so now there are sharp edges sticking up. Once I convert to power windows and can actually roll my window all the way down, that's going to be a problem for me as I like to drive with my arm on the window sill.

Done! It took quite a bit of force to get them off, but I did it! Didn't bend the metal, the new pieces just snapped in place

Pictures as promised! Did a little more maintenance while I was at it. Fitted some Falken 245/40/18's now the stance is looking beefy Also changed the wheel stripe from red to silver.
