Peterson AFB Auto Hobby Shop - CLOSING

Postby Stealth01 » Sat Apr 07, 2012 9:14

NO!!! Due to budget cuts, the Peterson AFB auto hobby shop is closing its doors for good April 22nd. 5-6 GS employees, most of whom are retired military, will lose their jobs, and the local military community will lose a GREAT resource. That place is packed full every day, and Calving (manager) and his crew taught me a LOT about cars.

If any of you care, please write to your congressman, senators, the base commander, etc. This place provides a true service to the military community and saves people like me THOUSANDS of dollars every year.

Ridiculous.

It's not just Peterson. FE Warren AFB where I am is losing it's auto hobby shop, Club, we lost our pool last year (AFTER they spent a MILLION or so restoring it only to use it for 6 months~), we may be losing our Golf course. So budget cuts are shuttering lots of places on bases.

Really? You're going to blame it on Obama when it's the Republicans always calling for spending cuts across the board? You can't have it both ways. When you cut spending, you lose programs that people use. That's how it goes.

Spending cuts are needed for a reason. If only I could think of some of those reasons. Hmmmm...yeah, must be all due to those mean old republicans lol.

Maybe we should give a few millions more to some green companies that are about to go belly up. Spending our way out of debt is the only way!! LOL

It's not all obamas fault, but he sure as shit has a big part of it.

Darn! I don't know where its at, but I was going to change my brakes there soon. Well looks like I will have to do it sooner before they close the doors for good. I wonder what will they cut next, I'm sure this is just the start.

I didn't mean to start a political fight. I'm just saying that if people want the government to spend less money, which people on both sides do, and people want to pay less in taxes, unfortunately that means giving up some useful services. Nobody wants to pay for them so they go away. You can't pay fewer taxes and get the government to spend less and still keep all the programs. Something about having cake and eating it too...

Yeah I'd imagine the one on Carson will probably be closing too if so many AF ones are. That really sucks.

I thought about trying to open something like this for the civilian population after I retire, but I asked the guys at this very hobby shop if it's financially worth opening and they said no way. They said there was a local shop like this open but it shut down because they had to charge so much for use.

I see what you're saying, but my point is if we didn't have so much waste and so many politicians with their hands in the cookie jar as well (on both sides obviously), I believe we could have nice things like this.

That is something we can agree on.

Man, that really sucks. I have a lot of respect for service members, and I think they should be able to have stuff like this.

I'd rather they COMPLETELY cut Obamacare and slash welfare than take benefits from military and retired. Let's see...we can help people who've served the country, or fund some crack-whore's failed rehab while feeding her 15 kids....which should we do?

Then again, I'm biased and a mean old SOB.
