zmarko wrote:Ok. So I couldn't find a module to work around the Bose (I did find one for GM vehicles, but not for Mazda). However, I did do some searching for a wiring schematic for the Bose system (I will attach below). Depending on how the HU is powered (hopefully NOT from one of the amp harnesses), I should be able to buy reverse harnesses for the amp harnesses and wire them together so it's plug and play and easily reversible.

So when did Bose stop using the weird 3ohm speakers that didn't really work well directly connected to aftermarket amps, that only worked well with the Bose amps with compensation EQ?

Hmmm. Not sure. The only experience with bypassing Bose was in a car from 22 years ago...and I didn't have a problem with the speakers at that point. Could pose a problem though. I will probably test the aftermarket head unit, and jump a single speaker with just some wires and see what happens.

Well, the bypass test worked. I unplugged all the harnesses from the Bose amp, and jumped first the front drivers side speaker and tested it...got sound (seemingly clean sound). Then I decided to add the front passenger speaker and got sound there also. So, in theory, the bypass should work.

However, I will lose the AUX-IN as the bose aux-in plug and the non-bose aux-in plug are different. Unless I can figure out a work around for that as well.

Here's a video of it working...don't mind the narration. lol.

And a pic of the jumped harnesses below.

Pretty Pretty!! My first Mazdaspeed3 was a '10 liquid silver, but it had problems. Luckly the dealership took it back, and let me buy my white '12 MS3. I still like the silver, it really accentuates the body lines. Does your head unit work with the steering wheel controls and bluetooth? I really like it.

The head unit is for the non-bose system, so in the non-bose cars the steering wheel controls all work except the "answer", "hang up" and the "voice" command button. The unit has bluetooth, and it's easy enough to reach over and answer the phone from the head unit itself. EDIT - the steering wheel controls will work in the Bose system car as well, as the interface is the same as the non-bose.

I'm still working on figuring out what the harness numbers are that plug into the Bose Amp. Once I get that figured out and find reverse harnesses, the system should work without a problem in the Speed (at least hopefully). The test run I did made me hopeful. They do have a different model for the Bose system equipped cars, and I would buy one of those if someone purchased this one (just to make it easier to install).
