Windshield Replacement

I saw a thread or two, but they were dated and lacked any helpful info.

I need to get a windshield replaced and come to find out, I don't have "glass coverage". So...this is outta pocket.

Where do I go and how much should I expect to pay??

You can call Safelite. Going non-OEM glass will be least expensive. It was $180-ish to do the Volvo with non-OEM glass. With, it would have been closer to $600.

Give Quick Set auto glass a call 303-452-5378 and get a quote. I don't like Safelite's glass (I think it scratches and chips too easy). By the way I've bought hundreds of windshields in the past 7 years or so.

Talked to Chuck at Quick Set. If the car is not equipped with rain sensor....
$200 - glass, intallation and moulding. Add about $90 for rain sensor

Do they have a Colorado Springs office? My Miata could use a new windshield. After 200k miles the current one is very pitted and finally cracking.

They are a mobile service (as far as I use them). They do have at least one shop location that I know of (north Denver). The website http://www.quicksetautoglass.com/ states that they do serve Ft Collins and the Springs. I order a bunch of windshields for the LARGE trucks out there, those trucks don't fit in too many windshield bays.

That explains why my replacement windshields seem to get pitted pretty quickly. No more safelite for me...

I actually scratched my brand new safelite windshield on my F350 while trying to clear snow with a brand new plastic ice scraper. Their install and chip repair for free is hard to beat, but the glass is the worst I've seen.

Thanks for the lead. I'll give them a call.

FWIW:

Safelite: $353 +tx
Brakes Plus: $221 +tx

Man, my truck's so high, it'd take a monster truck to kick stones up into my windshield!

It's actually not...and I am an "eager" driver...though with the new little car, I keep good distance and am now continually irritated by soccer mom's in SUVs that put their vehicles into that space.

just go without a windshield, I hear it will make the car faster.

I thought that was decals/stickers?

These things (speed holes and stickers) only work in tandem. To do one without the other, you are simply a "ricer" :o

think of how much lighter the car would be. removing the windshield and rear hatch, you have your own wind tunnel.
