Just picked this up for Lemons/Chump car racing. Got it to start last night running on carb cleaner. Tires need a little air!

Where is the S supposed to go now?!?
Looks great! That will be a fun car. When you get an idea, you go with it!

Both the BMW and Miata are outside. That black S2000 and the Datsun are in at the moment.

Nice. Wouldn't mind lending a hand where I can.

I'm going to tear into the carbs tonight. Then see if the fuel pump works. Pull some un-needed parts (smog and A/C) and give this thing a try.

Awesome! My dad purchased a 74 260z brand new. Had to order it and wait 6 months they were so popular, dealers couldn't keep any inventory, especially with the manual trans and air conditioning which his had. That car was pretty much reason I got into cars, I still remember sitting on his lap as a young lad and steering it through parking lots.
He had some era correct header and exhaust system on it so at full tilt that L26 straight 6 sounded fantastic. But living in the Mid East the road salt and winters got to it and the poor little Datsun rusted apart from just about everywhere and had to eventually be junked.
Yours looks great though. I've always toyed with the idea of someday picking up an early 240z and doing a rotary swap on it. Someday.

Same here. I love those old Z cars and I've thought of doing a 20B into one. I'm not sure I really want to start one of those projects though lol, not right now anyway.

I'm with you man, I wouldn't start this project for YEARS. A 20B would be insane, remember a 240Z weights around 2200lbs IIRC, plus you could drop it below 2,000lbs with some weight reduction. I think a 350rwhp 2-rotor REW with sequential twins in a 240 would be INSANE haha.

Strange, you buy this, and all of a sudden a blue 280z appears in the apartment parking lot.

Yeah, but there's so much room for a 20B or even a 26B lol.

De-smogged the exhaust manifold. Made a block off plate for the EGR. Plugged a whole bunch of ports on the intake. The carbs are Hitachi SU "flat tops". I understand the worst of the bunch. I am trying to figure out what ports are needed, those that should be vented and so on. I took the fuel pump apart to look at the diaphagm (has some cracking but is intact). I will try the pump as it sits. The budget for this racing is $500. I spent $400 on the car. I've got a few hours in it so far, and haven't spent a dime. I bought a set of spark plugs, wires, oil filter and a regulator. I thought I might try the new parts if needed to get it running. Then put the old parts back on and see if it will still run. The racing budget of $500 does not include safety equipment (brakes, tie rods, wheel/tires, seat, cage, harness...). So I have to be frugal with the parts. Haven't even dropped the oil yet. Not sure where fluids fit. My co-driver/owner is checking into the rules for prep and racing. We may look into Chump over Lemons. In Lemons, if the crowd doesn't like your car/team or if the race officials think you're cheating, they can crush your car at the event. I don't want to put this much effort into a car that could be used again (rally cross) to have someone decide to crush it. I've heard Lemons is more of a social program with costumes and themes. Chump car is more of a budget racing group.
And no rotory for me, I need it to run more than a couple hours at a time.

I can't imagine that maintenance items would count against the 500.00. I consider gas and oil as consumable...I guess filters as well. You wouldn't expect those items to be in good condition on a <500.00 vehicle. Though that doesn't mean I'm right.
How did the autoX go yesterday?
