I keep hearing you need a certain tool that you need to hold the cam gears in place that only Mazda sells. Has anyone on here done a head gasket on their own and if they needed the tool and have it could I rent/borrow it. I don't mind kicking whoever has one some cash, but I don't want to buy a tool I only plan on using once.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't have the tools, tho looking in the 2010+ MZ3/MS3 field service manual, I see possibly-related camshaft alignment tool and a crankshack TDC lock bolt. (See attached illustration of service tools from field service manual).

Let me know if you need an electronic copy of the service manual pages related to the L3-VDT engine mechanical work (including cyl head removal/replacement).
