Seeking a trustworthy transmission repair shop for my Honda

Postby seantobin5 » Wed Oct 09, 2013 9:14

Hello, I have a 1998 Honda Civic HX with the 5 speed S40 manual transmission. My car has been making a whirring sound for the longest time and just recently it started making a clicking noise at idle. I've done a bit of research and it turns out that the input shaft bearing is the problem with pretty much everyone's S40 transmission in their Honda. Does anyone know of a good, reliable transmission repair shop that can do this job and offer a warranty on parts and labor? I'm currently a college student and I cannot have my car break on me so when I find some time, I'd like to take it in and have this issue resolved before little bits of transmission goes flying all over I-25. The car has 173,000 miles on it. I know that's a lot of miles to have major work done but the engine is perfect, just had a timing belt done, clutch a year ago, no rust at all, rides very smoothly and gets 45+ mpg. I would rather have the repair done than looking into buying a new or used car. Also, I should also mention, I found a place called Wizard Transmissions that told me to remove and replace would cost around $350 and repairs to the transmission would be between $400-$800. Seemed reasonable but I wanted to see if there were any other shops you guys know about that specializes in transmission rebuilds/repairs. My regular mechanic does not do transmissions unfortunately. Thank you!
