MS3 DSC Off

Hey all.... I autocross a 2011 MS3. I have been struggling to completely turn off the TCS and DSC on my car. The last event I attended I used my normal method of shutting the nannies off. That is, holding the DSC button down while starting the car. When I do this, the DSC Off Light turns on, then off, then on again. Typically that works pretty well. TCS always seems to be removed using this method, but the DSC seems to remain on sometimes and I can feel the car losing power and applying the brakes while ngotiating the course. This only happens some of the time, but it's very noticable, and kills the capability of the car. I have determined I can pull the #14 fuse to turn everything off, but that messes with the power steering such that quick transitions are difficult. So it's probably not the best option, although at speed the steering is fine and it most certainly does shut off all of the nannies. So what I'm looking for, is the best way to consistenty shutting off TCS and DSC without puling the fuse. Thanks in advance to those who respond.

your issue isn't the DSC or the TCS, its SWAS (steering wheel angle sensor) that is causing the cut in power. once the sensor detects more than ~5* of angle, it cuts boost, and vents it. this causes alot of issues, especially in a curvy course.

the only way to turn it off, is to disconnect the plug under the column. a common thing is for people to install a switch on it, so it can be disabled on the fly.

Good theory but I have disconnected the SWAS before from under the column, so I know what that feels like. That is to say, with it off (either disconnested under the column, or pulling the fuse, the result is the same... tough to steer through a slalom and very dificult to steer at parking lot speeds. But SWAS doesn't apply the brakes and I can feel that happen as well. There is a noticable increase in brake temp that also supports that claim. Lastly, the issue isn't consistent. SWAS is active whether or not DSC is on or off. Suggestions?

well, SWAS turns off the power steering, so that makes sense as far as the difficulty turning. As far as the random breaking, thats beyond me. I've never heard of that with the MS3's.

I'm guessing you never run into these issues just driving around?

Nope. It's weird, because it's not consistent. I can run the course once and not feel a thing and post a decent time. Then, I perform the same ritual to shut off DSC and the car just falls on its face at the first hard turn. At the last event, I did run extremely low rear tire pressures (being a winter/non-point event I play around more with the set-up) so maybe that was contributing or causing the issue entirely. But I have raced with rims without TPMS sensors and had no issues, so I doubt that could be it.

At the next event I will just pull the fuse and see if the steering effort is too much to bear. Just negotiating the paddock might be the hard part.

Bypass valve, a BOV that recirculates.

Thanks. But no, I don't have one of those. I have a Cobb catted DP, K&N CAI and a Stratified tune. Otherwise the motor is stock.

If your class allows it, i would look at getting one. one of the issues with the stock valve is that the response on it is fairly slow, so a fast response BPV like a synapse will help with mid turn issues.

I never did ask, the issues your having, is it only mid turn, or on the straits too?

Turns only unless I'm left foot braking on a straight. That's another way I can tell that the DSC is engaged.... touching the brakes kills boost. I try to test it prior to going on course, but many times the paddock constraints won't allow it.

BTW, I can't run an aftermarket BPV in my class. It probably would help.

Those are some weird class restrictions if you can run an aftermarket downpipe and a tune but can't change out your BPV.

But I know nothing about autocross so...
