Can I boost my 2.3?
I want to boost and I'm wondering if I can do it stock on 8 psi or if I'll have to build. I'm new to Mazda and can't find shit on the internet. I don't even know what kinda engine I have I can't find a engine code I'm just lost.
What do you mean by what kind of engine?
Seems from the description of your thread you have the first gen 2.3L Mazda engine. I never boosted an MZ3 (or any car), but it seems like 8psi is pretty low boost and the engine is not high compression, so you would probably be okay on a stock engine. But if you are like most people, you will keep cranking up boost and will eventually either need to rebuild the engine proactively, or detonate the engine and rebuild it then.
Maybe this will help?

Can you? Sure, you can boost anything.
Should you? Probably not. Much better off just trading the car for an MS3.

Sure it's possible. I know it's been done on a Mazda 6 with the same 2.3 engine.
Looks like there is a ready made kit for it these days. http://www.turbokits.com/Mazda/Mazda3/Turbo_Kits/TSI_Extreme_Turbo_Kit/1958/
Some people opt for buying used parts from Speed3 setups since it can save a bit of money.
As a word of caution, like erod said, you can boost anything. It's almost guaranteed to decrease the life of your car though.
If it's an option, again as erod said, you might want to consider trading for a Speed3. They can be found for ~10-11k now with higher miles, or a bit more with lower miles. You'd want to try to find one that wasn't modded and has a good service history available. Otherwise, you'll be risking going zoom-zoom-boom.

What's the difference between my 2.3 and a speed 3s? Besides the fact of it coming boosted?

Google is your friend.

You're looking at upwards of $5,000 to purchase the kit and have it installed. There's a chance you'd also need a tune too. Regardless of what tune they provide, there's no guarantees that it will be a good tune in Colorado at such a high altitude.
You're honestly better off taking that 5 grand you'd spend, selling your car, and buying a Mazdaspeed3. Mazda put in the time and work to develop the engine to handle boost. It'll drive better too. And it would be much more easily modified to get more power.

difference between the speed 3 2.3 and NA 2.3 is practically everything.
The crank, rods, pistons, head, are all different fueling system is different, Pretty sure the block is too,
?
also if you put together a turbo kit using speed3 parts, which work pretty well on the 2.3, you could make some good results quite cheap. only thing you need is a good tune

The speed3 motor is a direct injection platform with a different head, pistons, rods, and pretty much everything is different. Lol. The only thing it really shares is the displacement. But like virus said, the manifold will mate up to the 2.3 n/A head.
I know this guy with a sweet Mazdaspeed6 that will solve your problem with not having a boosted ride...

You'd end up paying more to buy and swap in a Speed3 engine than you would spend selling your car and buying a Speed3.
There's a LOT of differences between the regular 3 and Speed3 beyond just the engine. Seriously, you're better off buying a Speed3.
