the "what's that sound game" part 3

Postby geo2maz » Tue Aug 12, 2014 9:14

Lately there's a weird muffler-related vibration aound that happens, you can hear it from the interior / below, happens when in motion

Could it be a loose muffler-body-clamp?

Driving it a very long distance soon and would like to fix it asap

start with the exhaust mounts. Also check and see if the heat shield is coming loose and rubbing the exhaust.

If everything with the exhaust seems to be okay, check the rear wheel bearings. Sometimes when it sounds like it is coming from right under you, it is actually in the rear.

What he said /\ /\
make sure the exhaust hangers haven't slipped partially out of the rubber isolator and that the heat shields are all clear of the exhaust. Also many Cats have their own heat shield attached to them that can start to come loose.

Thanks for the advice, im pretty sure you guys are right.

Took a closer look today but I can't see much without getting the car lifted, I did notice one part where the heat shield looks loose and I tried tightening the bolt but its stripped.

Leaving tomorrow and going to tack on a few thousand miles (will be at 100k+ on return), then may sell it and get a gen2 or another fun toy, i'm debating taking my car-title on this trip
