Yeah, they're pretty nasty. So are the Primewells on the back, Falkens on the front. Given what I need to do to the car, I'm pretty firm on where I'm at with price. If he won't come down to meet me, I'm quite content to walk away.

The search continues. That car needed a metric crap ton of work. He wouldn't budge from $4k, I wouldn't budge from $2500. I'm ok with lots of work, but for the right car.

Lots of fish in the ocean. Crazy people sitting on piles thinking they are worth a lot.

Off to craigslist to post s2000 for $22, 000.

He came down to $3500. We'll see if he keeps dropping. Otherwise, I'll keep looking.

One thing this has kind of got me wondering is if I really want an older vehicle. To get the right one, my budget needs to be about double, it seems. Anything in my current price range (like this Cougar, now at $3500) is going to need quite a bit. I knew this, but guess I didn't realize how much work I might be getting into.

For instance, the Cougar will need...clutch, steering, brakes, suspension, interior, body/rust repair, tires. I guess that's pretty much a standard project car list. It's a driver, but a bit of a scary one with a clutch that's nearly gone, steering that has about 5" of steering wheel slop in either direction, and brakes that need work. That is needed, IMO, to make the car driveable.

Its all in definition. Sort of why I didn't like the claim of "clean" in a recent ad.

In your situatiuon, this car is really not a driver. It is driveable if you don't want to drive the car at its potential.

I agree with older cars. Depends on how much more you are willing to pay up front so that you don't have to pay on the back. The nice thing about doing all of the work by yourself and not paying for someone else's is that you know what the status is. Looking at the list, it is overwhelming though.

The '66 Mustang owner is't available until Sunday to meet. I'm going to try and get something set up.

I really think it is a promising car even though it is a 6 cyl car. From the pictures it looks really clean.

Nice, the interior definitely looks more presentable than the Cougar. That alone makes it an easier sell to the wife than the Cougar.

Ha.

Thanks for checking out that '66 for me, Chris. I'm leaning towards the Cougar again. He's come down a bit more in price via some email negotiations.

No problem. I didn't expect that red mustang to look as bad in person as it did. The only thing nice about that car was the interior.
