Hit a big step in the project today and got the powertrain installed.

Oh so it's only going to be RWD? I was thinking it'd be AWD but I guess that wouldn't work as a mid-engine unless you turned the whole thing around backwards and got it to spin the other way, heh. Do you just cap off the rear input of the transmission then?

that tranny looks so long in that car. How do you run the linkage for the shifter?

The rear shaft gets pulled and there are few parts in the kit that will convert the trans to 2WD but you have to have the tranny installed and axles in before the conversion. The entire rear tail piece goes away and there is a cover plate but would be cool to do a propeller. The kit comes with a new shifter, brackets and cables to shift the trans. Factory Five could have done a much better job on the shifter and will probably end up buying a different one for both form and function.

I still vote for a prop, but the car is looking great.

If it were mine (obviously it's not

), it would be hard for me to cover that up with panels. I haven't looked at all of the pictures, but does anybody make a naked-type kit like they use on street bikes so that a fair amount of frame and engine are still exposed?

What wheels are those?

The ariel atom has an exposed frame.

I think those are the stock WRX wheels.

Definitely stock WRX wheels.

Also, I find it hard to say for sure, but I think I'd prefer the body panels on the 818. It is a really good looking car.

I think the panels look good, but the framework just looks so solid and the engine, as he has it (even without a propeller

), looks fantastic. I vote for either a propeller OR a viewing panel for the engine should be put into place...much like many rear engine super cars. This is a collaborative build, right?

I do admit to thinking highly of the Arial Adams, though I was thinking a little more coverage than they exhibit.

I got the header, up-pipe and turbo all installed and plumbed. The engine is 90% wired and the majority of the hoses are all attached. Dropped it off the stand and sat it on all fours for the fist time. Looks even cooler and man does it sit low, the pictures don't do it justice. I loaded the car on an open trailer and pulled the car to get some work done and then to my house for the weekend. Over all it was about 40 miles round trip and everyone was staring at it trying to figure out what it was. I am really pleased with the headers, great quality, perfect fit and just look awesome. It too bad they will end up being wrapped because the look so good.

I brought the car home for the weekend so I could get some of the tin work knock out, install the fuel tank and a few other odds bits.

Those are the stock 16" WRX wheel off of a wagon. They barley clear the break kit and have already have nicked one of the calipers so I finally ordered my rims & tire setup. They should be here in about two weeks but am happy with the choice. Haven't seen anything like these on an 818 or any other car for that matter. I went 18X8 in the front with 225/40/18 Toyo Proxes R1R and 18X9.5 in the rear with 255/35/18. Plus I got a really good deal on them.

how hard will it be to service that motor once the body is on?

Where did you get a deal on tires? That is a pretty common set up for staggered s2000s and an extra set of rear tires is never a bad thing.

I have heard from someone else building one of these that it will overheat at idle. I can't personally confirm this, but I thought you might be interested to know this.

It looks like the kit is really coming together. I'm starting to think it looks perfectly fine without the body panels
