Let me know how you like those Star Specs, I've been wanting to try them for a while. I'm also trying to make it to HPR this weekend.

Yeah. Really didn't want to. But this way, the tires will no longer rub on the fender tab and the roll will be complete and the fenders will be back to stock appearance on the outside. They were slightly pulled at the bumper before and it bugged me. This shop won't roll fenders without doing a paint process due to paint cracking. I had looked into it before and was just putting it off thinking that I will eventually do a complete color change and potentially go widebody. Getting rear ended accelerated everything because they were already in the back doing other work, so wanted it all done at the same time.

I doubt I will ever go wide body (unless someone drops an asm or spoon widebody in my lap) or color change at this point. Sort of frustrating since I am not too geeked with the paint condition of my hood either from when the dog walked on it.

took the s2k out to hpr yesterday for open lapping.
was running a different wheel and tire setup than before. much gripper tires and less sidewall. Previously, I was running some continental extreme contact summer tires on stock 16" wheels. These are Enkei pf01ss wheels with star specs on the rear (255) & AD08 on the front (245).

best lap was.2:16.76 which met my goal time. need to run that consistently and build some speed in a few high speed areas (T4, T7, Bobsled) & think 2:13 is easily doable.

need new brake pads now and the car threw some misfire codes this morning on my way to drop car off for new soft top install. will check into the more when I get it back.

So in addition to new brake pads and the misfire codes, I discovered some other new "issues" last night.

1.) After taking a hard corner, I heard metal rolling over my head. The soft top installer forgot to blow the backs of the rivets out of the bows of the frame after he drilled them out. The ends are capped and I read on an install guide that compressed air can be used to blow them out the opposite side. Problem is that the installer said that the top was very tight and that he would wait a couple days until putting the top down. That wasn't a problem until I had metal rolling around overhead. After speaking with them last night, he googled around and discovered the error and is going to take care of it for me next week.

2.) My secondary oil temperature gauge (actually reads a temperature instead of just illuminating bars) started acting erratically last night as well. It came up to normal operating temperature then would bounce around. I looked under the hood to see if the wiring connections were in good shape. I noticed that one connector looked to only have a few wire strands in it and suspected that was the problem. I pulled that connector and bought a new one this morning. The wires looked a little corroded, but not horrible, so I'm leaning toward that not being the problem, but I will get it cleaned up. I also noticed the protective cover from this wire was missing.

I did just speak with the manufacturer and they suggested some simple trouble shooting. Disconnect the gauge from the sensor (done) and see if the needle pegs out at the highest temperature (300 deg I think). If so, then the gauge is fine and it is likely a sensor issue. New sensor is $15.00. So I can knock that out this evening.

They did a great job on the paint and body work! Sucks about all the other issues. I imagine the oil temp problem should be easy, the metal rolling overhead would drive me crazy though haha.

Yeah, two simple problems, one of which could easily be remedied by a new, higher quality gauge/sensor. But, upon testing and further conferring with prosport, I ordered a new sensor on Thursday and it arrived today.

I had reset the dtc(s) and the new one that popped was p0303. This is a misfire in cylinder 3. I have some other work to do on the engine for preventative reasons and DWDUC is going to help me with that, so I'll have him help troubleshoot the misfire dtc too.

New oem pads on all 4 corners now too. That's always nice.

I did an oil change yesterday and replaced the sensor for my oil temp gauge. I haven't driven the car yet to verify it is the solution, but the sensor that was in there essentially fell apart when I removed it. Based on that, I'm hopeful that another simple problems is resolved.

Recently remedied issues
Brake Pads
Oil Temp Gauge Sensor (pending)

Remaining issues:
Assess cause of misfire and repair
remove rivet backs from soft top bows

Recently remedied issues:
Brake Pads
Oil Temp Gauge Sensor
Assess cause of misfire and repair (codes cleared themselves and have not returned)

Remaining issues:
remove rivet backs from soft top bows (waiting to get car back in, possibly tonight or tomorrow)

Work to do before next track day:
Replace intake side valve retainers
Brake Pads for track

Other projects:
Tubular aluminum bulkhead bar and seatbelt reel mount
check alignment/roll front fenders
build fiberglass soft top motor covers
Trim extra door sill plastics (where b pillar would be) to fit with roll bar
Mess with extra center console glovebox to fit with tubular aluminum bulkhead bar

I have the pieces to put together simple front brake ducts so that will be an upcoming project. I'll be using 2" ducts, which will provide plenty of air I think. I'm still contemplating moulding intake ducts that will funnel the air to the hose a little more smoothly than the flat fake ducts.

Undertook another massive DIY project: remove and replace radio antenna. While my car was in autobody, it was brought to my attention that a previous owner must have broken the stock antenna and replaced it with a non stock base and antenna. The base was replaced under insurance, but they did not replace the antenna. An antenna was ordered and it arrived from Japan in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, my car was back in autobody to have some issues resolved that I was not happy with. Now with my car back, I could dig into this project. Pictures for guidance.

With non-oem antenna removed, verify hole is threaded:

Align threaded post on oem antenna with hole:

Thread in using a clockwise twisting motion being sure that the post of the antenna remains parallel to the antenna base.

I lost all of the time lapse footage for this DIY, but hope the pictures are helpful. :4e40f5b5:
