Well the S2k was rear-ended by a Kenworth W90 dump truck on Monday afternoon. Dropped it off at the autobody/mechanical place I like this morning and got a VW Jetta in return. I took the car in with the SSR GT7 wheels on, even though I had been driving on stock wheels so that the shop could make sure to get it all back together and clear the wheels/tire setup. Unfortunately, the rear tires on those wheels are spent and I wasn't really planning to put new tires on them because I want to go to a couple sets of 17" wheels, but I ordered a set of Federal ss-595 tires to put on since i\I have had no interest from craigslist. I contemplated the 595 RSR, but my driving needs a ton of improvement before I go to a tire of that caliber...and Saul is reporting sidewall tearing on those. The ss-595 may suffer the same issue, but I haven't seen that in reviews at all.

So it sounds like the car is toast. Is this true? :(

It's difficult to determine because you're talking more about the tires lol.

Car is not horribly mangled thankfully, which is why I was able to take it to the auto body place. However, I agonize over small scratches, so crumpled panels was a bit tough. Should come out even better I hope.

Because of the height differential, the trunk took most of the hit. The trunk, center brake light, and JDM market emblem will need replaced. The rear bumper will need repaired or replaced and they are going to rework the rear fenders. Most of the area on the trunk level will need repainted since the trunk got pushed forward over it. They still need to open it up (pull bumper, etc) to see what else is going on that can't be seen from the surface and do a mechanical inspection.

Edit: Have to go pick up new top from other shop that was going to be installed on October 5th. Won't make that appointment and it may be required to pull top off my car for paint now, so the install should get covered.

Oh the way you were talking about the rear tires not making it I thought the whole rear was smashed in. Well that's good I guess.

The previous tires were toast from driving on them. Ended up running stock wheels with max performance summer tires this summer as opposed to my nicer SSR wheels. The ride on 16s is a little smoother...the continental tires have a good ride quality too though. I'm sure I'll end up hating the federals, but since tires on those wheels only seem to last 8-10k miles, not like I will have to live with them long.

Went back and attempted to clarify my post.

Have you had the front bumper painted or will you get that done at the same time?

Going to leave the current bumper on as is right now as it isn't too bad. The other bumper (Vin matched with OEM replica lip) is off the car waiting for more monies to actually paint it right.

Ended up getting another set of wheels (Enkei PF01ss) with track tires (A mix of AD08 (front) and Star Specs (rear)) and a full extra set of street tires Continentals) for a pretty good deal. Car is still at the shop and I doubt it will be ready for track day on the 16th. But I will have some pretty good wheels/tires for it if it is.
