showoff.

Car threw a DTC for misfire in cylinder 3 yesterday. After the last track session (months ago), the car started throwing codes for misfires. I was cautioned that it may have been just because of the car being flogged at the track and the computer adjusting to normal driving, but apparently that wasn't the case even though it has been fine (not that I know since it has been in autobody or the garage most of the time). Under the counsel of DWDUC, my head race team mechanic, I exchanged the ignition coil from cylinder 2 to cylinder 3 (cylinder 3 ignition coil went to cylinder 2) and the spark plug from cylinder 3 went to cylinder 4 (and of course cylinder 4 plug went to cylinder 3). I didn't have time or inclination to move fuel injectors as he suggested (1 to 3 and vise versa). Reset the dtc. No code yet, but it has taken a while for it to come on. The curious aspect of it all is the presence of oil in the spark plug tubes that we chalked up to the seals. Look forward to getting my other valve cover back on.

Injectors commonly cause misfire codes on S2Ks. I had that on my old one. Threw the car into limp mode. I just had them professionally cleaned (by Havana Machine) and it was perfectly fine after that. And thankfully it's a pretty easy job getting them out and in.

I've used:

http://www.witchhunter.com/
Both have done a good job. Well worth the $100 or so to have it done.

With ~65K on the car, perhaps its time. So many things I would like to do:

Injectors
Valve retainer swap and adjustment [done 4/29/17 w/ DWDUC]
Brake ducts
carbotech street and track pads (bobcats/XP12)
built TCT (Ballade?)
Oil Cooler
Move gauges off A pillar to radio door
custom Carbon Fiber interior trim panels custom fit to the roll bar
custom replacement bulkhead bar that will hold factory 3 point belts and clear harness(es)
Additional racing bucket and fixed mounts for passenger side (and Harness)
CF hardtop
front splitter
GT Wing

Oh, and be able to drive more fasterer (intentional).

Ive done valve adjustment. Much quieter and the car feels smoother. Once these bushings come in the car will be almost as good as new.

Thanks to DWDUC the valve retainers on the intake side were replaced with AP2 retainers and keepers. The valves were also adjusted. I was also happy to get my custom powdercoated valve cover back on.

So the car was giving me fits for a while. It has been parked since my mechanic is spending more time as a carpenter, mason, or construction worker. Ended up taking it into a shop to have them look into it. After a few hours of trying to diagnose it, they went with a new battery. Drove it home yesterday and in today. So far so good.

As far as misfires go, I haven't convinced myself the problem is solved since I haven't had much tme on the car (less than a tank of gas).

So far:
new plugs (gapped)
Valve adjustment
swapped around coil packs
serviced injectors (according to shop, they were fine though)
Battery

What's left?
Crank Position Sensor
ECU

Drove the car most of last week. I have a few tanks of gas through it now (I think) and no CEL or strange electrical behavior. Going to chalk it up to a battery, and call it a lesson learned. Got a lot of good maintenance and preventative work done chasing the issues though.

Now back to the fun projects...once the PE Exam is completed in April.

glad that it's working for you. Any update on the truck?

You're 6 years into ownership of this guy, congrats!

Glad the battery seemed to fix your issues.

Truck is doing good. I took it to a shop and they replaced the rear half of the transfer case, all new workings inside pretty much.

Really need to get to work on it. Have this idea of keeping it around for a while. may as well put some love into it.

Electrical issues starting popping up again. Replaced the alternator so the car seems happy now. Will wait to celebrate for a bit.

Bad news is that I had some Federal RSRR put on the blue SSR GT7 wheels. Turning into my driveway the tire caught the lip on the front right fender and damaged it...so now I can have the front fenders rolled. I'll probably have them done to accept fitment of 9" +45 wheels. Then I can run a square set up more easily.

As far as the RSRRs go, I am impressed with their turn in responsiveness. I am not impressed with how loud they are driving in a straight line, but I suspect that's part of a 200 TW track tire being driven on the street. I haven't gotten them to be very loud on a corner yet. I think they are grippy enough that the body rolls to a rub before they get to a point of wanting to break free, because I do get rubbing without the accompanying squeal from the tires.
Also, I think they run wider than any other 255 and 225 tires I've put on the car so far (Pirelli PZero, Hankook Ventus V12, Advan AD08 (255)).

That sucks about the fender, the Nitto tires I put on mine did that, I think due to how tall they were for their advertised size. Also the Nitto were super quiet in a corner until you had already pushed too hard, there was very little audible warning of slip.

I hope the alternator solves the gremlins, it seems unlikely but stranger things happen.
