Parts to get:

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy ... Key=Cougar

You could just get everything from Rockauto. If you go that route, go with Moog.

Here is another great option: http://www.p-s-t.com/s.nl/it.A/id.675/.f?sc=12
I used PST on my galaxie.

This would save you some money over the other kit: http://www.p-s-t.com/s.nl/it.A/id.996/.f?sc=12

The only other part you would need would be the center link.

Marti report for the car. Nothing terribly collectible, but neat to have. The more I see it, though, the more I'm sure I'll go back to the original color once it's time for body work.

The Dan Gurney Special was merely a dress up kit. Some chrome in the engine bay, some wheel covers, and a sticker in the window.

I wish I could do a Marti Report for my car. There is no record of my car because of a fire at Henry Ford Museum, August 9, 1970.

I think the coolest thing is knowing what dealer it went to hear. They're still in business, although the name has changed. It's now Landmark Lincoln.

Since I've only provided the one shot of the car so far, here are a few more.

Is that a little 2 1/4" cheapy tach in the dash?

I had those same seat covers in my black RX when I got it.

Just found a rebuild tag riveted to the block. Bore .060, Rods/mains .010. Serial number 26927. Hmm.

No date. The plate is stamped, but it appears where/when was on paper on the top part of the plate. Most of that tag is gone.

So your motor is bored out? So what is the effective displacement if a 289 is bore .06?

About a 297. Some folks thinks it makes it a 302, but a 302 is the same bore (4")as a 289, but longer stroke. 302 has a 3" stroke, the 289 is 2.87"

So could it be the original motor?

I'm pretty sure it is. The chrome valve covers, dipstick and oil cap are Dan Gurney Special parts. While they could've been transferred over to a different engine, they aren't really THAT valuable that I think they were worth moving over. Date codes on the manifolds are the correct code. I haven't pulled the starter to check the stamping there.

The previous owner put an Edelbrock intake on it, and late 289s have a 302 stamping in the valley. My guess is he saw that stamping and assumed it was a 302.

I had a rogue loose wire under the hood from the wiring harness for the gauges. Ends up it's for the oil pressure sending unit. My car just has the idiot light and not a gauge, but at least I know where it goes. The sending unit was cheap, so I ordered one and now my pretty light works. Wee.

love the cheap part fixes! What is the deal with the headlight doors? They look like they don't line up right with the grille in your pictures. Is it an adjustable stop? adjustable cover? or is there damage? I've always been curious about those. My brother has a ford falcon with Vacuum powered wipers and they didn't work at WOT. Wonder if those would be similar.
