Pics to follow, eventually. Project car hell to begin.
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
looks good Huzer. It will be a great project. How does it sound?
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
Thanks. It's pretty mellow sounding right now. I'm excited to get going on it. I haven't even started cleaning up and poking around yet.

It'll be a great project car. Just let me know if you have any questions.
If you are willing to drive it down here, I can do a complete walk through with you on the car.

Thanks, I think it will be too. I'll get it on ramps today and look around. Head over to the DMV for title and tags. I'll see what I need to do for a tune up before I drive it over for emissions. EDIT: With collector tags and cars old than 1975, no emissions. Wee!

Straight pipes save lives and money.
Amazing how good the paint looks in your picture. How long ago was it repainted?

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
I agree, it does look real good on the pictures. I set of classic looking wheels would change the look of the car completely.

Badass. These have always been some of my favorite classic cars; I'd take one over a Mustang of similar vintage any day. (A '69-'70 fastback excluded ) Any plans yet?
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
Rolled around under the car for a little bit today. Only significant rust I'm finding is the passenger side floor pan. Naturally, nearly everything needs to be replaced/maintenance. Every bushing is shot, etc, etc. Exhaust leak from some shitty tack welds on the exhaust. All in all though, I'm pretty pleased the more I go through this.
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
A couple of minor things done. Set the timing, it was way off. Adjusted the idle and swapped the air filter assembly for a traditional round one. The triangle wasn't mounted at all, it was just sitting on top of the carb. Picked up an accessory belt as the current one is cracked. Running rich, many exhaust leaks from the terrible exhaust welds. Started a list of what needs to be ordered. It's a long list, ha!
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
We could get that exhaust fixed up.

If I can't swing for headers, I may take you up on that.
I used to talk of the Miata being "analog". I don't know how to categorize this one. It gets more looks than the Miata, sounds better, and is a comfier cruiser, that's for sure. I'm really looking forward to making it a little more solid. I'll take my time and (hopefully) do things right. The only somewhat uncomfortable thing for me at this point is the sloppy steering. That needs to get fixed ASAP. The slop is in the box. Not sure if I should rebuild this one, try to adjust it, or spring for a repro box.

Let me know if you want some help adjusting it.
Also Really look closely at the idler arm. If there is any movement at all, it will make the steering really sloppy.

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
The movement is at the steering column/shaft going into the box. Everything under the car, while it needs to be replaced, doesn't move in the "slop" portion of the steering.
