AutoX 03/12/11 photos

Postby christi » Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:14

I didn't get too much of Heat 1 because I rode with the Ramsey's the entire time of their runs. These photos are from Heat 2.

This thing was bad ***, and hot. The owners while speaking with them specified they haven't had it for too long. It was a beast, and hot. This is all.

This RX-8 was pretty hot, too.

Jamie's (Jamiel on the forum) little VW. rode with him the first time he went out in Heat 2. We spun. It was fun <3

The FD (Has clear doors!). Wicked. I do not believe they knew how to drive her. The guy admitted to me he did not know too much about the rotary. He mainly owns vipers. He did state it has a Street Port in it...

Christi, I was looking for you, but didn't know who to look for. I worked the early shift at the gate (blue Miata). I'll try again next event. Hope you had a good time.

I don't think the wing on that RX-7 is big enough.

why clear doors? I'm assuming it's plexy or lexan. But why not just have no doors at all. Just my opinion unless doors are required. Still I like it. Fds are sexy

Which gate? The one we pulled into? Then you saw me ;) I was driving the black rx-7. Hehe. Next time for sure. I'm going to take my car on one event after I get some things done with her. I really miss auto'ing badly

I'm pretty doors are a requirement. They are just for weight savings since FD doors are long and heavy stamped steel pieces. I bet they save at least 25-35lbs per door.

And yes they are :)

makes since. That's some weight savings compared to other minor things like carpet and trim. He should rock the plexi or lexan and go with a clear hood. Now that would be sweet.

Glad you had a good time Christi!
That's mostly Randy driving above.
This is me driving. I'm pretty proud of this pic. The Scirocco has something like 700lb springs in the front...

I so need to talk to your autox photographer.... and get them to give me pointers. Then again, I need a longer-range lens than my 18-55mm kit lens I was using.

haha that photo they got was *great*... the rear is totally lifted ;)

Your photos are good, especially for the kit lens. Well done. A longer lens would help you a bunch. You have the right timing and are capturing the right moments, you just lose out because of the wide angle of many of them. I would say watch your background, but i think that it's all because of the kit lens and not you (again wide angle ftl). One suggestion, try to get some captures at a lower angle, more level with the car and less above the car.

I do have a telephoto lens for the Nikon, but I didnt think it would have been practical ... It's a 55-200mm.

We have 3-4 good photogs show up regularly- Susan Lawson is an autocrosser who is also a good photog- she was in the the silver SERSpecV (they also have an orange 350Z). Max Lawson (no relation) is usually at summer series events. Both are really nice folks that I'm sure would be happy to help you out.

Why do you think that? Any more ability to reach out at such events more than the 55mm limit on the kit would be of great use!
