Autox & tagging my class.

Postby christi » Sat May 21, 2011 9:14

Hi guys,
It's been a while since I really did any sorts of AutoXing. Last I did anything of the sort, it was back in 2003. I had a stock car then. I'm not facing myself with my RX-7 who is not.

I won't be autoxing her until I get atleast 300-400 miles on her. So maybe not next event (June), more than likely (july's) event.

A few details about her:

1990 RX-7, 'vert.
No roll-cage.
No cat - 2" test/straight pipe.
RB Dual-Header.
Rebuilt S4 N/A 13B Motor, street ported (So far 0 miles on the motor).
Stock mufflers.
E-Fan installed (from a Taurus SHO).
Modified Intake & has K&N filter.
I doubt this last part has anything to do with it but I had the OMP removed for the rebuild and I'm running part 2-cycle.

Stock Tranny, shifter, suspension has not been touched yet.
Tires are stock, wheels are not, right now I don't know what I have as the car is at someone's house until the motor is put in.

I'm thinking STR Maybe STS? What do you think?

Thanks guys!

You car will not be able to run in the ST classes because you ported the motor and aren't running a cat. I think you may be bumped into SM but I could be wrong.

I was afraid of that. I'm pretty sure I won't be competitive in that class, and I highly doubt they'd mind. I'm 98% sure I can't beat any of the S2000's or Miata's in STR, but I also don't want to be out numbered with the SM guys who are all-out modified (including tires).

I'll have f un, but I also like to be competitive in a sport like this :)

Anyone else have any ideas? I tried to read the "Get Started"info on the classes, but I couldn't figure out what I'd actually be.

I would guess it's an S4 engine because she just got a rebuilt engine put in her 7.

Because I did a mistype and I fell asleep to take a nap and just woke up to fix it. That's why.

Don told me I do not have to have a large break in period with the seals he uses (goopy). I also got three different opinions that autox'ing is not going to hurt the motor since majority of autox'ing is done with 1-2gear.

At any rate, I'll probably still wait with the break in period regardless. I was just getting a feel with what I was going to be put in.

Honestly, while I agree with Chris, I would suggest you just re-post this over on rmsolo.org and see what those guys have to say. Honestly, as you can see from today, most people don't seem to give a damn what a person has done to their car as long as it's within reason. If you're running in STR, let's be honest, none of us are ever going to touch those S2000's, and I'm sure if you spoke to the other guys that are there, none of them would have a problem with it.... I know I wouldn't, and I highly doubt Eric or Amanda would either.

Then again, I'm a driver that can use a LOT of work, and don't hope to really be competitive in this class (thinking about stepping down to STS lol, not like it would matter much, I need to learn to drive this car), but something tells me the guys that usually run STR wouldn't give a damn. Only one way to find out: ask them. RMSolo.org is probably a good place to start. ;)

Talking to Randy and one other person, it looks like with all my mods (including engine bay removal of emissions), I'd be screwed anyway... and put in SM. This'll be a fun time when I go to autoX her.
