well this is what i would do if i were you.

Im assuming by school you mean college, correct? I would see about acquiring a car to rallycross. Look around for perhaps an old BG 323 or anything else to your liking. Old escorts and neons are good too, im just a Mazda whore. You can use it for a winter beater or like, AND you can get your feet wet with rallycross. Just get your SCCA membership (new members program is cheap) and go hit up as many rallycrosses as you can afford. They are in Fountain and the CORE rallycross park never Denver, alternating.

Worst case, go and at least attend these events. That should cost you nothing, and you can get ride alongs etc. Get active with the Colorado Hillclimb events as well. This is a great chance to see and learn that doesn't anything from you fiscally. Talk to people, have your questions answered etc.

Better still! If you have the gas money, get a few people together and go to an actual stage rally as volunteers! You will learn plenty and gain a perspective how a rally works and the volunteers are ALWAYS needed.

weight wise, anywhere between 2400 to 3200. not much worse than any normal car.

Whiz,
Yes, it is college. I have a couple of degrees already, but not the right ones (apparently). So I work full time, coach/compete in weightlifting (Olympic style and potentially some pwerlifting if I get bored) and crossfit. Working on my current car is enough at the moment and I really can't justify having another car around until I can actually really use it. Keep in mind I already have my car, a truck, and my wife's car.

I like the idea of attending some events though. Will definately do that. I also plan to attend some auto X and road racing events to really see what I like the idea of the most. It just seems like rally/rally cross would fit my personality best considering I prefer mountain biking to road cycling.

potentially. Idaho is pretty that time of year, especially along the Salmon River. Too bad bear season is over (or is it).

You are apparently hanging in the wrong places (Actually I haven't either, but they are plentiful). I archery hunted for 7-8 days up there, but it was too early in the season and the bears were still on grass (they eat it as they come out of hibernation), and not hitting baits yet. The Salmon River Valley is supposed to hold high populations. I was hunting in some NF adjacent to Montana (I think). Called the Lolo unit.
