2011 Rocky Mountain Mustang Round Up

Postby coloskydiver » Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:14

The shop that help me finish up my Miata invited me to show my car at their boot at the 2011 Rocky Mountain Mustang Round Up in Steamboat this last week end. What an amazing event and location. Over 500 Mustangs converged on the town of Steamboat for mountain cruises, Auto X and show & shine. The show and shine took up over 6 blocks of down town Steamboat lining both sides of the street and one row down the center. There were a ton of classic and modern Mustangs from the rarest classic GT 500 to 2011 Shelby's & Roush's.

The AutoX event was on Friday and featured 150 cars in the event. Because I was with one of the sponsors, I was able to run my car in the event and ended up with a total of 10 runs. 8 I drove and 2 the owner of the shop drove. The vender runs did not count in the event but was still time and logged. I ended up putting up the 3rd fasted time (45.3 sec) on the course loosing to a 2011 top of the line Roush with slicks on (44.2 Sec) and the Miller Motorsports racing Mustang (42.7 Sec). That was going against a bunch of newer GT500, other Roush's, 1000 HP Fox Bodies and many other highly modified, high horse power & high dollar Mustangs. I did have a lot more runs than everyone else to get the track down, most were running street tires and some didn't really push it with how expensive some of the cars were, but am still proud. I actually had what felt like a faster run but the car in front of me spun out and pull right in front of me. The track was also well suited for my car and is built for this type of driving but man was it fun.

I was a little unsure of how my car would be taken since I was really the only none Mustang in the crowed but was amazed at the attention it received. So many people were amazed at how well it did at the AutoX and the car in general. I had a bunch of people come up to me the next day and tell me how fun it was to watch my car and easily got the most attention at the Mustang Motor Sports booth.

Here is a video I put together of my runs and some pictures from the show. Enjoy!!!

BTW- I know I misspelled "mountian".

Would have loved to have gone but had other plans with family this past weekend. And you were at least Ford-powered, even if you were in an import. I'm definitely going to try to make it next year.
