New Mazda diesel-powered racecar for the Rolex 24

Postby GR-8 » Sat Dec 08, 2012 9:14

Pulled this from RX8 Club. This makes me want a new 6.

You're looking at the racing version of the 2014 Mazda6 that will make its motorsports debut at the Rolex 24 endurance race on January 26-27, 2013, in Daytona Beach, FL. This Mazda6 racecar will be powered by a twin-turbo Mazda SKYACTIV-D Clean Diesel engine tuned by SpeedSource Race Engineering (whose RX-8s won the Rolex 24 in 2008 and 2010), and is being developed for GRAND-AM's new alternative-fuel GX class. This will be the first time a diesel-powered vehicle of any type has ever raced at the Rolex 24. Mazda will be seeking their 24th class win in the American endurance classic.

"We've been eager to announce this car for months, but had to wait until the production car was revealed," commented Mazda North American Operations' Motorsports Director, John Doonan. "The SpeedSource engineering team, working with Mazda engineers, have been flat out for months on engine development. We're happy to report that the engine is meeting the performance targets for both power and endurance. That means 400+ hp for over 50 hours, with an engine that includes a very long list of production Mazda parts. This is not a pure race engine; it is a production-block SKYACTIV-D. We're excited about having our newest engine powering our newest car."

Says 400+HP. If Mazda makes a speed version again it must that exact bumper and side skirts. I'd sell the N/A 8 and Bronco just to put a nice down payment on one. Even if it makes less power than the race ready version. Which it will.

from everything I've read, the states are receiving the diesel 6. Probably with an auto-only spec though.

If you do the facebook thing, like Mazda on there so you can read their status updates on the 2014, 6

Somebody with mad photochopping skills should take that picture, soften it up by getting rid of all the stickers and race-sponsor livery, throw a coat of Black Cherry Mica on it, and show me what my next car could possibly look like. The wing on the back would need to come down about by 1/2 I would say, too. ;)

I accept the challenge. But I don't have some time so don't expect it next day. :D

Updated first post with the image instead of the link. Needed time to shrink it down.

According to mazdausa.com the 2014 Mazda 6 will be available in US dealerships late in 2013 with the SKYACTIV-D option mated to either a 6 spd SKYACTIV auto or... SKYACTIV 6 spd MANUAL!!!!! Also Mazda has realeased that there is "talk" of realeasing a MAZDASPEED version (with the diesel and posibly AWD), and less likely but still possibly a coupe version.
~~~Think I can make it?~~~:eek:
If they came out with a Speed6 Coupe that would be what I'd get. But the 4-door would work well too.
White and Blue.... I must have them both.
Mazda website says available January 2nd, 2013. I know where I'm gonna be. Must see if I can find a dealer with one and look at it in person!
