$449 a person minimum plus a $2500 deposit. Way too rich for my blood to drive an exotic car for a couple hours.

Is it wrong that the car I'd be most excited about driving is the Ariel Atom?

Yeah I looked into renting a Lamborghini Gallardo to drive away from my wedding in. $1200 bucks plus a $5k deposit. I don't use a credit cards so there's no way I'm putting cash down the deposit.

Plus it only included 100 miles total included in the rental, and my wedding location is 70 miles away, one way LOL

The Ariel Atom was what caught my eye too. Not the highest top speed, not the most comfortable in the rain or snow, but in terms of accessible sportiness and its power-to-weight ratio being twice that of the Bugatti Veyron (still the fasted street legal vehicle in the world in Oct'2010) means no other vehicle there can touch its 0-60 time. On public roads, it has gotta be one of the most ridiculously fun ones to drive for a driving enthusiast. :D

I wish I could cheaply rent a Caterham Se7en. If its MSRP is only around $28K, that means it should only cost twice what a Hertz or Avis rental econobox costs, right? (yeah, right, hah.)

I was looking for Ariel Atom rentals for a Christmas present and I found that site. They have some other very cool cars though. I was bummed about the deposit or I would have pulled the trigger on that one

Actually, there are plenty of other "vehicles" that can beat the Atom's 0-60mph time, like any 1000cc+ crotch rocket, that are fully street and emissions legal.

And, IIRC the Ford RS200 still owns the 0-60mph record for a production car.

Good point! 'Vehicle' was not the best word there. XD I guess I just take it for granted sub-$25K new motorcycles have some ridiculous numbers... Actually, Top Gear might have been right when they said the Atom was faster a few years back, but now, it appears that the Buggati is on top of the Atom again:

  1. 02 Lingenfelter Chevrolet Corvette 0-60 mph 1.97 Quarter mile 9.1
  2. 02 Viper Hennessey Venom 1000TT 0-60 mph 2.2 Quarter mile 9.4
  3. 06 Buggati Veyron EB16.4 0-60 mph 2.7 Quarter mile 10.7
  4. 08 Ariel Atom 500 0-60 mph 2.8
  5. 06 Mosler MT900 S 0-60 mph 3.0 Quarter mile 10.9
...according to zeroto60times.com, anyway. Thing is, it seems like every site I go to has a different list of cars with different times!

Here's another one!
  1. Ultima GTR720 2.6s
  2. Bugatti Veyron 2.7s
  3. Ariel Atom Supercharged 2.7s
  4. SSC Ultimate Aero TT 2.8s
  5. TVR Cerbera Speed 12 2.8s
