500k - 2 bed 2 bath 1200sqft condo on the upper west side.. (I haven't browsed further, but i bet it's a real hellhole for that price)
50k - Let Flyin Miata throw the catalog at my NA, 2.0 big turbo style.
50k - Let Flyin Miata throw the catalog at the Black Cherry Mica NB that I'd acquire, V8 style.

As much as I'm rather build than buy, at this point in time, I value spending time with my kidlet more, plus at least i wouldn't be afraid of it blowing up.

20k - killer desktop rigs for me and my two brothers. water cooled, SLI, massive SSDs, 30" monitors, the works.

10k - household electronics.

100k - donation to the American Ballet Theater (for whatever privleges that would afford my wife. Not enough for a seat on the board of directors, but hey..)

100k - household furnishings, wardrobe, killer appliances

170k - mortgage and other debt. turn our house here into a rental property to pay for the outrageous property taxes that we'll suffer in Manhattan.

Thankfully I have family across the Hudson, so I won't have to park the cars in the city.
95 Classic Red Miata - 'Kona'
Racing Beat Sways, AEM WB O2 sensor, ACT clutch, Ground Control Springs, Bilstein HDs, Fat Cat bumpstops, 95 stock 14s (winter) or 99 sport 15s (summer)
Flyin' Miata stuff:
FM II Link GT2560R turbo, Butterfly brace, N/A dual exhaust, Oil filter relo kit, Rear shock mounts

08 Sunlight Silver Mazda 3s GT Sedan - 'Tuna'
OEM Wing spoiler, Sirius and Media switcher

05 Onyx Black Mazda 6i Hatchback - 'Smokey'

Alright, let's see:

600k: buy my parents house that they currently live in
50k: redo the basement on said house
30k: Buy a B5 Nagaro Blue S4 in fairly good condition
60K: Stage 3 both the S4 and my A4 and get a custom flat black paint job on the A4
50k: vacation to Bali, Australia, India, Israel, Spain, Italy, France and Britain
100K: college fund for possible future children
50K: shopping spree, mainly shoes
60K: donate to cancer research

Yep, I'd be satisfied with that.
2004 Mazda3s Hatchback: Totalled
2002 Audi A4 Avant: Sold

2013 Subaru WRX 5-door: Stage 1

Well, I'd invest most of it, but...if we're talking about actually spending it...

Same as everyone else...I'd build / buy a house with a nice shop first. Budget $300k for that. I don't need a huge place, just a big garage with a couple lifts and lots of tools.

Then I'd start my own race team. Something that's affordable, competitive, and leaves room for advancement...probably Star Mazda. Pro Formula Mazda cars are around $20k to $100k depending on how well equipped they are, and how old they are. Figure $200k for a car (or two) and parts.

At that point I'd pay someone to design me a good logo, website, etc. and help market it. Seek out some interesting sponsors. Would be nice to say hey, I've got a car, a shop, money to burn, and a drive to win...you just put my name out there, and I'll put your sticker on my car and rep your products. Win / win.

The rest I'd use for race budget. Star Mazda race budgets are around $350k a year, including parts, tires, gas, mechanics, etc. If I didn't end up winning any races, at least I'd still have the shop, and the team name...plenty of talented drivers out there seeking sponsorship. Worst case scenario I could probably get most of my money back by selling all that stuff. Pro racing is my dream...I might be too old for it by this point, but a million bucks sure would help get me there :D

Alternatively I'd still build a house / shop, but pursue my other dream...traveling the world as a photojournalist working for a publication like Motor Trend or Car & Driver.

20k? i can build you something that would rape almost anything out there for around 2k each. not including the 30"
core i7-2600K aircooled (can be OC'd from stock clock of 3.4ghz to 4.7ghz stable on air)
8gb gskill ram
2x Radeon HD 6970 2 GB in CrossFire (right now amd is better than nvidia pretty much just as good as a pair of 580's but significantly cheaper.)
128 GB, SATA 3Gb/s SSD for os and games.
then throw in a dvd/BR burner. PSU, 7200krpm 1tb for storage. a case. and a heatsink for the cpu.

ive been pricing my rebuild. and that would be the Ideal setup but i dont have 2k laying around every 2 years or so. im looking at a pricetag of 800ish and still managing to get crossfire. and sandybridge.

You're absolutely right. Now build something where price is no object.

1500W PSUs for the pair of 590s that are going to drive the triple 30" setup.
32 GB RAM. Why? because I can.
2x512 GB RAID 0 SSDs for boot and apps, 2x2TB RAID 1 for media and storage.

It's pretty much an exercise in reality versus fantasy. Throw in some nice 5.1 setups, a great desk and chair...

Besides. My older brother has 4 kids and a wife. Might as well set them all up, as well as my parents with MacBook Airs, right?

I'm actually kind of surprised you didn't go with the 6990s. But then again, you're basing your build on reality again. :)
