I saw an acura with vinyl CF on the entire front all the way to half way down the doors. Also the wheels were covered in it. It wasn't even an attempt at a good job.

How ricey is it, if I put a carbon fiber hood on my MS6?
Thinking of doing color-matched paint on the outer contours of the hood line, and leaving a narrowing effect with the exposed CF. It will be similar to the picture below, but w/out the high contract of white/CF, since my car is Black Cherry Mica.

I probably would normally agree with you, and just say to leave the hood totally exposed CF, but..... The problem is that the person I procured this from, already did some paint accents to match her car. So unless I want to leave her accents (black with silver), I'll need to do my paint over it, or somehow have that current paint "stripped" to show the CF again. Image

Why not paint the entire thing? I imagine you picked it up because it is lighter? Also, I like the two tone look. Seems to follow lines nicely. Since you don't have as much contrast, I think it would look good. But, I may not be the best person to ask...I am thoroughly bored with all of the JDM cars. They all end up the same.

_Chris, it wasn't me. If it were an S2000, then it probably would have been?:D

I think the two-tone would look good too, considering my stock color. Maybe I'll just have to take the hood to a body shop and see what they say about gently being able to removing the paint that is on there, currently. I would have to think there's some sort of solvant that can be used.

I think just a straight up CF hood would look good against the BCM. It's a dark color and you I think it'd be a waste to vinyl over the edges.

Edit - Read the rest of the other posts. Didn't realize it was already painted. Either Match it with vinyl to BCM (The Cheaper route) or talk to a shop about sanding the paint off and buffing the CF or re-painting it to BCM. ( The expensive route)

Not sure how the vinyl overlay stuff works. For all I know, the "paint" that I'm looking at now, is vinyl.

Called a body shop today and while they told me that (assuming it's paint) they could remove it, they said that returning what is underneath to the matching sheen of the currently exposed CF, might be hard. Obviously if it was painted once, the hood was prepped for it, and that is their concern. I think I'm leaning more and more to just having all the currently painted area, reshot BCM and calling it a day.

Pic of the hood? If you can feel an edge with your finger nail it probably is vinyl.

Droppped the hood off this morning with Body Beautiful near my house. They confirmed that it was paint not vinyl and I'm looking at $325 (4 hours labor + paint + disposal/shop-fees) for them to redo it. I'm just doing BCM over what is there now.
