Some Good News for a Change

Postby Stealth01 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:14

I know everyone here is probably tired of reading how my crappy money situation makes things for me, but as of late, things have started looking up.

I got that bonus that bailed me out where the fan control module was concerned, and I managed to turn that from a $600 fail to just a $200 fail with tbot's help. Used another $550 to buy those Wintersport M3s from a subie gal in Denver, so my tires are handled for the meantime.

I'm HOPING the command overcomes a business rule that makes it so civilian employees cannot receive two cash awards in the same 365-day period. That bonus I received was for LAST year, and should have been paid back in January, but they had to jump through hoops to free up the money. If they can get that rule waived, I could land another bonus in January. That would help, and like I said, I'd put it all toward the car, mostly in preventative stuff.

My limited powertrain warranty is going to cover that VVT actuator problem, if that's the demon right now. So $250 is OK.

Today I met with the roofer and it looks like we will owe NOTHING in deductible, thanks to some creative financing and arrangements. SO that's $1000 we don't have to come up with right before the holidays.

My wife's made good progress on the credit cards, and it LOOKS right now (hope I don't jinx her) like she'll be receiving a promotion/Pay raise in January. Should be another $500 - $700 after taxes each month, so that will help IMMENSELY.

If all of this works out, things will really look up for us. Maybe, come next summer, I'll be able to actually put some money in my 401K, AND still be able to mod a bit.

So cross your fingers -- maybe the stars are finally aligning for us.

Yay!!! That's awesome news!!!

Just out of curiosity, do you run on Fiscal years as well? As in the new year technically starts on October 1 for you? I know USDA does it that way and that's how some supervisors get around the yearly cash bonus thing. Then again, we may not have that limit on cash bonuses here. Idk, I'm not eligible for them since I technically have a temp position.

In this case, the rule is written for "any 365-day period" or some such crap. I'm hoping they get it changed or waived or whatever.

Yea tint was one of the first things I did too. That and the short shifter.

Glad to hear you might be able to get some more mods soon. Cars really are more fun when they're modded. :D

Good news.

We will continue to be really tight till the wife can get a job in May or so. She's in school right now to become a teacher. Between classes and student teaching she has no time to work. I make enough to pay the bills and cheap food but that is it. The way we sit right now, we can't afford to even go out to eat. But all this is worth it. What's one year in an entire lifetime.

Actually, the wife's been pushing me to tint my cars for years, but it seemed kind of frivolous. We'll see what the $$ looks like around December.

And yes, Chris, it'll be worth it. Especially if she enjoys teaching.
