Found a Samsung N150 on craigslist for cheap. Brand new, in the box, so I couldn't really pass it up. Its got Windows 7 on it, and found a free upgrade to ultimate, so I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I did notice tho that it takes a minute to load up the tables in the Standback tuning software...so that kinda blows...but oh well, for what I paid, can't complain really.

So hopefully now that I have this, I'll be able to get some tuning done on the car

I figure you already did, but make sure you dump the pre-loaded programs you won't use, and make sure some of the others will only run when you tell them to, hopefully that will help speed things up.

yeah i looked thru all the software and the only thing was mcafee, everything else was necessary. i'll look into a class3 sdhc card, but i think its just the os. the hdd is already partitioned so maybe i install xp on it and see how that works, if no bueno, theres always osx or ubuntu...or meego...or chrome...options are endless really haha...just need windows for all the tuning stuff.

I recently dropped a solid state hard drive in my desktop, made a world of difference in load times. A small one might be the thing for that.

I was thinking about getting one for my sisters laptop but they are expensiiiiivvvvveeeeee and I think the biggest they had at bestbuy was a 80GB.

when theres substantial data to backup the "faster than hdd" and "much better on battery" claims for sdd, i'm not interested lol...as of right now (without dropping more than 5 bills) on one, it just isn't gunna happen...soooo basically not worth it.

Can't say for sure about the "much better on the battery" part, but there is lots of data that they're faster. My cold boot times for Win7 went from 45-60 seconds to about 20 (from the time I hit the power button to the time the computer is actually useable). Also, quality small ones are available for under $100. I picked up the 60GB one I'm using (OCZ Agility 2) for $135 before a $30 rebate.

The battery life claim is legit. I put an 80gb in the wife's studio 15, and it about doubled the battery life. Then again, it was also running an WD scorpio black prior to that, which is not kind to battery life to begin with.

You can do much better than a class 3.. up to class 10 now. Unless there's a CF slot, in which case you can find something faster. Capacity isn't as important as random read speed, since that's the slow part of the HDD that the card is trying to make up for.

And GR-8, couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not, but for netbooks and other devices with low amounts of RAM and slower hard drives, it really does make a difference.

Haha always!!! I did get a 2 gig mem chip for it...so as of now even with that, I'm still under $200 spent on the thing, which is hard to shake a stick at!!!

Like I said, I don't want to spend a shit ton of money on the thing, so a SDD is out of the option (and for speed, they are faster at read and seek, but not write...they're much slower).
