I've had mine now for about 10yrs. I hear that's about the life to expect from them. I've noticed my back is giving me problems these days too. Coincidence? Perhaps.
My current mattress is nothing special. But IIRC, regardless of "build-quality", a mattress runs about $200-300. I'm wondering if its worth it to get one of the Memory Foam, Sleep Number, Etc. one's?? I'm sure they are pretty spendy, but if they last longer and assist in proper back support, etc. it may be worth looking in to:huh:
Anyone have such a thing? Recommendations?

I've slept in both Memory Foam and Sleep Number in my traveling days. Both are very comfortable. I would think that the Sleep Number would last longer since it's air and you can always fill it up and adjust to the setting you like. Not sure how long the memory foam will last. I think our next mattress will be the Sleep Number.

my parents have a Tempur-Pedic mattress and say it's great. All I know is the thing weighs a ton. We have friends with a sleep numbers and they like it.
We have a pillow top sealy for sam's and it was very comfortable when we got it but now it's over 5 years old and isn't doing that great. The problem is you can't flip it, only rotate.

I've never slept on a sleep number. but I have a memory foam pad on top of my mattress and absolutely love it. my parents recently got a new pillow top mattress and I actually get back pain from laying on it for a while.

We have a king size pillow top from Denver Mattress Company. Cost either $700 or $800, can't remember, but it was worth every penny. We've had it about 7 years now and it is still super comfortable.

Sorry, a little late to the party - but I have the Sleep Number beds.
When we got married, my wife ran us through several sets of mattresses. Neither of us preferred the full memory foam mattress - felt like I was just sinking into the La Brea Tar Pits. And very heavy and hard to maneuver.
We ended up with the Sleep Number. We got the base model - no display of the number, just an inflate/deflate switch. For $180, I can live without the number.
We have twin mattresses put together to make a king bed. The system works. We like different firmnesses and the mattresses don't deflate over time. It is nice to have adjustment depending on your mood. While unromantic, the twin beds together are nice for different sleeping styles and sleep/wake times.
Note: I found the whole mattress world to have very high-pressure salesfolks and very unclear information.

At long last, an owner! heh heh
I was under the impression that you could adjust each side individually. So say a Queen bed (my preference) the misses could adjust hers and me, mine:huh: (grammar fail?)
One of my concerns is the Lifetime Expectancy? For how much these suckers are, I'd hope they last a long time.
I'm seriously considering a bed out of the Sleep Comfort/Sleep Number family -- Unless someone has any other options I should be looking at??
I wonder if I should give the 30 day trial a whirl...

Be sure to read the fine print on the 30-day warranty. Twice. During our "Search for Slumber," we got some stuff from a company and somehow the 30-day thing didn't apply. Got hammered selling them on Craigslist.
The Sleep Number king bed is made up of two twin/long mattresses, so yes, individually adjustable. This provides good isolation and makes the bed manageable to move. (Most king beds have two twin boxsprings and one giant, hard-to-move mattress.) The Sleep Number doesn't need a boxspring.
We've had ours 5-6 years and still seems fine. It probably will - right until it explodes or shatters. I don't bring steak knives or fondue forks to bed. I did get good, breathable mattress covers to keep them clean, and no pets or kids.
They do cost a pretty penny. We got a massive discount because my wife was a massage therapist - considered a good recommender, so they gave us ~30% off. Also, I was somewhat frustrated at 25 days - didn't think it was worth the money. Called to send them back and they gave me a bunch of stuff (accessories) to convince me to keep it.
Now you know how they operate as a business - huge profit margins, lots spent on marketing and stuff, plenty of wiggle room.
