im leaving colorado next friday

Postby Dange » Thu Nov 24, 2011 9:14

so I was planning on moving spring time frame 2012, but i figured why wait and do nothing and just waste yet another semester. Plus me and the roomate were canceling our lease this month and moving anyway. so I put the wheels in motion about a month ago.
Ill be going back down to tucson az. Parts of it suck because I have all my friends here in colorado. I know dozens of people here that i can call on for help in a second and get it. and I know ONE SINGLE person other than some family in tucson.

and well the car scene sucks in tucson.
You all may think that the shell meets are kinda lame but we typically have 2-3 speed 3's 3 speed6's a speed protoge and my MX5. theres plenty of evos and sti's a few single digit 1/4 mile talons, and a few highly modded srt-4's plus the slow cars are wrx's and maybe 5-6 hondas..
I went to the tucson "equivalent" and there were about 30 highschoolers in hondas their parents bought. with fartcans welded to the stock exhaust pipe
the few better off ones had intake/header/exhaust and the ones getting the most attention were bodykitted... and they were all revving like some lowbudget F&F outtake.
I found ONE guy with a speed3 it was bone stock and a gift from his parents.. dude got good grades in highschool from what he told me. worst part? kid was in highschool and pouring fourloko into an inandout cup and drinking that like there was no tomorrow and then got into his car and drove off after about 2-3 cans.
the "fast" cars.. well i counted 2 srt-4s that were basically stock. 1 wrx that was stock except for a couple stickers. and a 16g turboed talon was probably the quickest one there. and she couldnt even keep up with me at 8psi....
though it was downright hilarious when i followed down to the racing area to see what it was like and the honda kids were laughing at the miata and making fun of it "miata power! oh yeah!" untill when i left I went sideways at full boost. the looks of what the hell was that coupled with the almost audible sound of bricks hitting the pavement made my night.
the local forums are almost as bad. theres a few nice people but its mostly dead. not nearly as much activity as here. azmc is a pay for car club which isnt bad but i havent checked in with them in a while. last i checked they were less active than us.

Anyway. long story short its gonna suck moving. but I have to inorder to afford school. and Im already 26. im not getting any younger

I've always loved the car scene in CO, that's one of the reasons I want to stay so bad.

So it looks like you've listed one HUGE reason to stay in CO (the car scene) and one eh reason to move (school?!). LOL jk

Well it sucks man, but visit any time you want, you can crash at my place. That is of course unless I PCS outta there after you leave haha. Best of luck Dange.

Good luck with getting school wrapped up and moving to a place where you can enjoy the car scene more once you are finished.

Quick question though: What makes a car scene...everyone with a ton of cash (or unafraid of debt/neglect of futire financial planning) to throw at their cars to make them fast/powerful, or people that like cars and enjoy working on them, driving them and being around them. From your initial post, I get the idea, I wouldn't do well in your scene, especially since I have an essentially stock MZ3.

I think what he means is that the area is filled with ricers. I do not like surrounding myself with ricers, but I do enjoy being around regular car people lol.

My ex used to say I was a car snob because I clowned ricers, and she used to worry about having a stock car because she thought I looked down on her because it was stock. That was not the case as I told her many times. There is a difference between having a stock car and being a ricer. Even if you have a few mods, you aren't necessarily a ricer. Now, if those mods are a few items from Autozone like fake fender vents and a glowing shift knob, you sir, are a ricer lol. (Not YOU, I'm speaking generally lol). I have absolutely nothing against a stock car...unless it's one of the idiots flying into the parking lot during our meet and acting like they're driving a race car, trying to prove something I guess.

Yep speedjunkie hit it on the head. its kids that weld a fartcan on their stock OEM exhaust piping. slap on a walmart intake and use up their entire their allowance on stickers/leds/underbodylights/neoncolor painted stock wheels/unpainted ebay bodykit that is missing half the bumper.
and then they sit there revving their tiny 80hp engines and dropping their clutch so they can leave a 3 foot single tire mark... thats after drinking booze from a paper cup and straw...

Ah, good.

Though I have a tendency to like some of the rice add ons (I like the lights/glow:mellow:), I think I would do alright in your scene.

Good luck with school. I'm in for my third degree now. Those peices of paper really don't mean much unless you really can apply yourself to learning to learn, and then applying it later as the job world constantly changes. I'm sure you already know this though.

its not bad as long as you do it right and you arent driving around like a hovering discoball.
my minitruck i actually sunk a set of red cold cathodes under the dash to give the footwells some glow. it gave JUST enough to look cool. yet you coulnt see the bulb.

and im not knocking slower cars either. I just cant stand when people slap minor mods on and think they are the fastest car in town. its like when i went to the races a few months back. some dude in an rsx-s had an intake, header and exhaust. was running all the little hondas and bragging "ooh ooh 7 and 0!! my cars the shit!" so i asked him if he wanted to run a miata. and he got all excited to get to 8-0 well he got raped... And my car isnt all that fast in my own opinion.
just know what you have and have a little humility. almost everyone started out with a slower car. i had a 88 ford escort 1.3L autotragic car. it did 0-60 in eventually. eventually i moved up to a 1990 miata with intake header and exhaust. it wasnt fast in a straight line but i got to where i started learning car control and it took me untill i was 24, had been in the military and deployed to iraq before i could afford what i have now.

yeah I really dont want to leave. however the local community college here is $158 a credit hour, and the local college in tucson is $54 a credit hour. I could go to the university of arizona for the price of pikes peak community college... so i figured what I am saving on the price of school will almost pay my rent. and then after i get my associates in science and start looking for a medschool im going to be looking at coming back here or to the UofA if i can get in.

and yeah I have to get above a 3.5gpa for what i want to do. so its going to be alot of work. partially I am thinking it may be a good thing to have a quieter car scene out there and knowing alot less people. it will be a much smaller distraction. my first attempt at college was rather horrible. i managed to get a 1.0 gpa because I was working and trying to go to school and juggle what i thought was fun back then. left me almost no time for studying. Im thinking the military may have instilled enough discipline in me to actually succeed this time around.
