Some people

Postby speedjunkie » Tue Nov 29, 2011 9:14

So I've been looking at parts for the Pathfinder as well now, specifically a grille guard/brush guard. I really like the OEM ones but they're extremely hard to find now. I saw one on CL in Costa Mesa, CA, so I emailed the guy making him an offer. This was his response...

Hey Eric

Thanks for the offer, unfortunately it would be difficult to ship this item so I am looking for local pickup only.

Doug
Hmmm, he has sound logic. It is VERY difficult to drive it to a FedEx or UPS store and let them put a tag on it...without even boxing it mind you...and give them some cash (which I would be paying for) and they ship it for you. Makes total sense. WTF?! Really?!?! You don't even have to box it up! It's for the outside of the vehicle! How hard could it possibly be to ship it?!

Some people aren't willing to ship, that's why they post on CL. I shipped a rear end for an FB and I would never do it again even if I didn't have to box it. That was a huge PITA. I really don't blame the guy, lol.

Think you might be in the minority on this one. I also don't ship on Craigslist, and I find most people don't. Ebay is better for those out of town parts.

Yep, I don't ship big stuff either. Biggest thing I've ever shipped is an exhaust system, and only because I still had the box it came in.

Reasons for not shipping big stuff are:
1. It's big. Might not be able to fit it in his vehicle to drive it to a shipping place
2. Shipping costs vary widely, so he'd have to take it to the shipping store twice. Once to find out how much it will cost to ship it and again once you gave him the money to ship it.
3. Something that big would be a pain in the ### to get through the shipping place's door, twice.

So that's why he posted locally so someone that wanted it could just come get it. The extra hassle just isn't worth it.

Yeh, I also use craiglist for local stuff I can pick up. And I use ebay, forums, and online stores for the rest.

Well then I'll be the minority haha. I can see not shipping it if it's really heavy, but these are made of aluminum and it's really not that big. Also, he has his Pathfinder still so this will fit in the back. Really shouldn't be that difficult to ship this specific part. I didn't even mention that I would be overpaying him for this stuff, I discovered after doing more research. There is a guy in NJ that has one for $100 and I offered this guy $400 for the brush guard and the tail light guards, but I didn't even want those.

I'd rather not ship some heavy stuff, but if someone will pay for shipping, I'll ship that shit lol.

I agree with you junkie as long as the buyer pays all the shipping costs, its theirs.

I ran into this issue when i was looking for my mountain bike.

Glad I'm not the only one haha. It makes it really difficult especially when you're looking for rare parts. I want to get some OEM rubber floor mats for it too, but someone will probably say THAT'S too difficult to ship as well. LOL

I would be careful trying to buy stuff off Craigslist with shipping involved. Even if you pay with PayPal, they are likely not to cover you in the event of not getting anything due to the transaction being outside of eBay. Pretty easy to get scammed IMO.

I shipped a genuine RX-8 Mazdaspeed bumper once to NJ and man, that was a bitch. Difference was it had to be boxed. I basically saran wrapped it and then cut multiple pieces of cardboard to fit it and tapped it together, making a "custom" box. Still sucked. FedEx said it HAD to go air freight and it would cost $900 bucks (the same price as the BUMPER!!!). I ended up shipping it Greyhound bus for $50 bucks haha.

I hear that LOL!! $50 is WAY better than $900. Fedex was out of their damn minds on that one. But as long as the buyer would pay it, eh haha. I talked to the NissanPartsPeople.com and they said they don't have any in stock but I can order it and it will be ready to ship within about a week, so I'll just order that when I'm about to come home. Now if they can make the floor mats too, that would be ballin haha.
