Anyone take advantage of the Colorados natural surrounding and go hiking or climbing? I am getting into it up in Idaho, mostly feeling out equipment and building myself up for longer multi day hikes.

I used to be into hiking big time but I haven't in quite a while. I really need to get back into it. I used to be big into climbing back in HS and college.

i have never climbed, i would like to learn it though. I just like being outdoors. its nice. Im sure plenty would disagree though.

I've done alot of camping, and decent hiking in NOCO, and Wyoming. Not looking forward to my next PCS if I have to leave the state. (unless it's Norway!!!)

im actually looking for a new ruck right now. thinking some of the largerish mountain hardwares. The north face didnt have crap.

I wouldn't mind going hiking, but I usually like to return home at the end of the day haha.

I'm far from an outdoorsman or hiker, but I have hoofed a couple 2 or 3 of the Colorado 14ers. I recommend doing it, to anybody who never has! Just do your homework first. =)

i actually got a pro discount with mountain hardware via the military, so everything is about 40 to 60% off if i buy for myself. I rather like their selection and service. The North Face has something similiar but they have crappy selection and no information on the product other than size and color.

North Face gear is a little over priced IMO (nothing like Marmot though). Mountain Hardware makes nice gear. Also check out Eberlestock. They make nice packs too. I have a couple of different packs. I think one is a Kelty and the oter is a Sierra Designs. Only time I "backpack" is while I am archery hunting.

Eberlestock is based out of boise where im located. my only concern is that they are heavy. a similiar sized mtn hardwear is say 2.5lbs, where Eberlestock comes in between 8 and 11. But i like molle for its adaptability

I think eberlestock cates more towards hunters, so they build the packs a little tougher to withstand off trail hiking, and for carrying out animals.

I think if you get good deals on Mountain Hardware packs and can get one that fits you and your needs, then thatwould be a great way to go.

Another smaller pack that we have is made by Osprey. That is a medium sized day pack, but I like it a lot.

yea the 360 price for Eberlestock is high since i can get some nice 60 to 70 litre MtnHrdwr ones for about 90 to 120 with my discount.

well i bought this. With my discount it was only $105 instead of $175.

Its light at just under 3lbs. And red so i can find it!
