Anyone know any good spots no more than an hour and a half away from Denver next to a lake preferably? Going this weekend with a bunch of friends and cant seem to find a good spot yet.

Tent camping, RV, fourwheeling, low ground clearance? Guanella pass above George Town is a pretty nice area and is a fair road for mimimal ground clearance cars (grassy meadows and water for dry camping or tents). If boating or fishing, South Park has a couple spots. Horse Tooth west of Ft. Collins. Chatfield Res (don't laugh) isn't bad for a near by get away location. Mueller State park outside Woodland Park is one of the higher rated Co state parks (no lakes that I remember).

Just so you know, a lot of the camping areas will be occupied in the Forests. Currently it is archery AND muzzleloader season for Elk, Deer, Bear, Mountain Goat, Big Horn Sheep, and possibly moose.

Yes the River is partially frozen...

Went to the last one about a month ago, and it's right next to the Poudre River (not a Lake, but in my opinion just as nice).

Actually all three are nestled right next to the River.

No lake next to the camp sites, but Golden Gate Canyon State Park is really nice, and super close.

Enjoy the drive, it's alot of fun. Most of the cruises up in this area follow Stove Prairie, Rist Canyon, or Poudre hwy.

Also if for some reason the site is full, Ansel Watrous Campground is about a 7min drive east. Narrows Campground 8mins west, and Mountain Park Campground 13mins west of SP. Also Dutch George Flats.

We got there thursday, had awesome neighbors that had just as much fun as us. Not crowded and jumping off the small cliff into the river (super sketchy) at midnight was a blast. Thank God i didnt die doing that. There was probably 18 of us over two campsites. Although this sunburn hurts like a mother.
